First make sure your speakers and speaker wires have not shorts or grounds. If they all check out good try pressing the reset switch (usually a small pencil tip sized indentation on the front of the face or behind the face on the sub panel. If it still reads protect after that, you may have a bad output ic.

Kenwood cd player keeps flashing "protect" when i turn it on. How do i fix this?

The "Protect" message indicates that the unit has detected a short or surge in the wiring to the unit. Check your ground and make sure that the speaker wires are not the problem. (Any broken wires or speaker wires that touch the case of the CD player could cause the issue.)

If there are no obvious wiring problems, then the unit has an internal short. That should be resolved by sending the unit for service if it is under warranty.

Please add a comment with the model number of the CD player for additional information. I hope this helps.

Kenwood KDC-MP342U turns on but just keeps saying "reading" when in usb mode. I recently had it go into protect mode and I took the stereo out and checked the wires and re-attached the ones that...

it sounds like the USB connector on the face place of the radio has a cracked solder joint. i suggest taking it to a person that know how to solder small objects. your Kenwood has a one year manufacturer warranty it could be some thing to check in to.

I am installing a kenwood cd receiver kdc-mp205 every thing is hooked up but the screen says protect wat is the problem?

Hello.. sorry to hear you are having problems. With the Kenwood car stereos, when they detect a bad speaker in the car, they go into protect mode to keep from burning up the outputs of the stereo. Either you have a bad speaker in the car or a speaker wire that is touching metal (grounded out). You can cut all of the speaker wires loose at the radio and reset the radio. Then turn the radio on and hook each speaker up one at a time until it goes into protect and that will let you know where your problem is located. Hope this helps and good luck with your venture!

My stereo won't work. Whenever I try to turn it on, it always turns off saying "protect." How can I fix this?

The protect has come on because it senses an output load problem, Turn the unit off, unhook the speakers and wires from the stereo, now turn the unit on and turn the volume down as far as it will go, this should reset the processor ic, if the word protect stays off you have a short in the wiring or bad speaker. If the protect comes back on with everything unhooked the problem is in the audio output ic pack in the stereo and will require a technician to remedy.

"Protect" keeps flashing on my stereo and it will

You might have a speaker wire crossed....Pull radio out but leave hooked up if possible.....Unhook one set of speaker outputs at a time from the radio and power on....Keep doing this until all speaker wires are undone....If you undo a set and the radio works like normal, then the fualt lies in those wires.

My stereo keeps saying ''protect''. how can i fix it? ive tried to unplug it for 4 hours and it still dont work

Check the speaker wire connections and make sure that none of them are crossed. Shorted wires will cause the reciever to turn on the protect mode to keep the amplifier from shorting out. Try disconnecting the speaker wires from the reciever. if you turn it on and it still says "protect" then the short is possibly in the reciever itself.

Can't do anything - LCD screen says "PROTECT"

It may be that there is a problem with a fuse inside the stereo. It may say protect because the fuse has broken a connection that allows it to turn on. If the protect goe sup it is trying to help save the stereo from cooking its self, and give you a chance to get it fixed. If that is not the problem then it may be easier to just buy a new one, because a fix may be expensive if you don't have any warranties.
