Question about Baby Lock Sewing Machines

1 Answer

My Babyloc serging machine does not feed the material through! The teeth appear not to move the fabric. I have taken off the plate to see if any fabric is underneath, but there is no dust or fluff. The arm attached underneath to the moving feet appears to stick occasionally and will not move the fabric through the machine!!

I had this same problem with a Babyloc machine. The two hex set screws that hold the feed dog assembly to the drive shaft may have worked loose. You can confirm this by turning the machine by hand and observing the movement of the feed dogs. Tighten the hex screws using the correct size Allen key. You will most certainly need to adjust machine's timing. When working properly the feed dogs should rotate front to back in an elliptical pattern, remaining down during the down cycle of the needles. If the set screws have worked loose you may also have a problem with the stitch length adjustment cam (located on the left side of the machine.) This problem will manifest in a machine that is locked up or slows down during use. When dry the cam will heat up, expand and seize within its bearing sleeve. To fix this problem you will need to remove the small plastic cap (with red arrow) covering the screw securing the cam. It is usually also necessary to remove the connecting rod/sleeve that the cam rides in. Once both of these parts have been removed, you will need to carefully separate them and resurface the inside of the sleeve. This can be done with a very fine (500grit or higher) emery paper. Once the cam fits inside the sleeve without binding, reassemble using sewing machine oil or lithium grease and adjust feed dog timing.

Thank you for the rapid response. It's a Husqv 1070 model. I have cleaned out the lint under the pressure foot and plate. The feed teeth are still not feeding the fabric. Any thoughts?

Are the feed dogs actually functioning? Are they dropped below the needle plate, move forward, then up, and move toward the back while above the needle plate? If so, then they are working properly. If they are not rising above the needle plate, then they could be stuck in the lowered position (check that it is not set for darning). If they are not moving at all, then something may be disconnected or they are gummed up from old oil that has dried. If they are moving, but not grabbing the fabric, then the teeth could be worn down.

My sewing machine wont RUN. The needle goes up and down but the material wont move along.

under the foot around the needle, there should be two rows of what look like teeth, these pull the material through and there will be an adjustment mechanism on the machine. Try leaving the foot up while you run the machine, you should see the teeth going up and down; if they are it is most likely just a case of setting up the amount of pull. I think it is adjusted with the wheel that sets the length of stitch.

Baby lock BL4-736d the feed dogs will not move forward

Make sure the stitch length is set long enough to actually advance the fabric. If set too short, the fabric movement will be very minimal. Also check that the presser foot pressure adjustment is set for the type of fabric you are sewing. The adjustment can be made for light- or heavy-weight fabric. If the presser foot pressure is too tight or too loose, it will have difficulty pulling the fabric.

Brother CS6000i with setting 00 for straight line stitch is making a left curve stitches instead going straight.

***Your feed dog under the pressure foot seems to be pulling on one side a little harder which indicates wear. It is likely to solve the problem by replacing the feed dog.
***Before you do this try to lower the pressure on the pressure foot. If the material you are sewing is thick it will have an effect on the pull of the feed dogs. The material you are sewing that you sent appears to be jeans material. It looks like it is thick and somewhat slippery.

I cant get the material feeder to come up so that the material can slide

Make sure feed dogs (teeth in needle plate beneath needle) are showing. Flip switch to UP position to "feed" fabric. Sometimes control fir this located on back of machine lower left side and " hidden" by your extension table, so remove that table and you'll find the switch! Jimmy

the teeth (feed dogs) must be up enough so they can move the fabric with the help of the presser foot (or all purpose foot)

The material feed isn't working on the borrowed machine that I am using. Is there an adjustment? I have to feed the material by hand!

Are the feed dogs up? Can you see them moving?
Sew without fabric and you should see the feed dogs moving back and forth under the needle plate. There may be jammed threads in it if it is not moving. Not sure about your machine but most needles plates either flip up or can be unscrewed to check underneath for clogging.

Kenmore sewing machine # 385.17626 feed dogs not advancing fabric. Appear to move up and down, but not forward to back.

I had the same problem and had recently posted my own message, with no replies. Took it to a repair person and he fixed it at no cost - it was stuck in reverse because the mechanism(s) were all gunked up. Take off the accessory box on the machine and the bottom plate. move the mechanism so they move freely and take out any gunk you see. The feeder dogs should now move back & forth in addition to up & down, feeding the material properly
