SOURCE: External Hard Drive No Longer Recognized

hey im the same person who just posted above. i went to WD's website, and it said unplug the hard drive from the computer, and unplug it from the power source. then plug it into the power outlet, wait for it to spin up, then plug it in via USB/Firewire, whatever. it worked for me, so hopefully it will work for you.

SOURCE: Laptop Won't Recognize External HD

You can try opening the device manager in Window XP and uninstall the external hard disk (make sure you show unplugged devices).
Then replug the drive again, and it should reinstall the drivers.

SOURCE: hello! i got a problem with my external hard

The external drive needs to be initialized from your PC. To do this, right click your My Computer and choose Manage. At the left panel click on the Disk Management. The list of available drives will show on the right.

Right click on the drive and select create partition (primary partition). After you've selected your partition , now you need to format the hard drive. Choose quick format. Right click again on the partition you've just created, now select "Format" and select NTFS. Click ok and it will guide you until it is finished.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Hi Joyce,

You must check to see if your PCs have the correct drivers installed and active for this external HD. For some reason, often the PC will "forget" that there is a driver already installed, and you need to re-install it to get the HD to be recognized. If the drive came with a separate CD, or Mini-CD, containing an install program, you might need to run it all over again. It cannot hurt to do so. Most of the time, they do not want your external drive plugged into the PC when you are running the install. Be sure to check the instructions or if you don't have them, go to the manufacturer's web site and find them by the model number, under Support.

Let us know how it went?

Cheers!

How do I delete folders from my iomega 1TB external hard drive (LPHD-UPC)? I keep getting a message saying access denied / hard drive may be full (it's not) or in use? thanks

This can happen when you place a drive in multiple computers with windows. Also this can happen if the system used the drive to extract system folders.

right clickt he items and then click security. click advanced and you can go to the owner tab. under that there is a way to take ownership for the selected items and all subitems.
