Question about Toro Lawn Mower With Toro Power Tools

1 Answer

My toro has key starter. I bought new this season. It has only been used twice and had started "on a dime". After 1st mowing, fuel was enough for 2nd mowing. Mowed second time, was going to empty oil, but pouring rain. Was sick 1 wk, went out of town, rained more, had Poison Ivy. 10 days later, empitied oil for new oil as directed, put in fresh gas, and the 1 oz of anti moisture liquid. Would not start, only a cloud of oil and mower ran for a couple seconds. Yes, I kept the handle gripped to keep running, but died. Gave an hour break, and tried three separate times withing hour or two of breaks between attempts.

It's way too soon to be having these kinds of problems with that mower. I would take it back because what you have described is a Ring problem or valve that is letting the oil into the cylinder. Problem with a Ring issue is you lose compression and if you lose compression the motor won't start.

Toro Electric Start Problem

Remove spark plug and observe condition. Fouled with oil, bad motor. With plug removed pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray WD40 in spark plug hole, pull rope several times see if oil blows out. Spray a lot of starter fluid in spark plug hole, replace plug. Spray starter fluid in air cleaner area of carb, try to start. Replace spark plug, try to start. Ensure oil is full, all mowers have a low oil sensor now. 30w oil. Always use Stabile in gas.

Does the mower die right away (cuts out) or does it sputter to a halt. Sputtering out would indicate a fuel problem. If it just cuts out when hot, then more likely an ignition problem. Your coil may need replacing. Take a close look at the coil wire (spark plug wire) and its routing. Make sure it's not touching part of the engine where it's heating up and has caused a "leak" to ground it out when it gets hot. If all is well then check your spark when the engine is hot and cuts out. Make sure you have a very good blue spark and not a weak one (check it cold first and then compare!). Again, indicating a possible ignition coil problem. Hope this helps and best of luck to you.

Toro GTS 20332 (bought it 12 months ago) won't run

I believe that Toro Guarantees to start 1 Pull, was gas left in it all winter?, If so this is'nt covered under warranty, cause gas is to be ran out or dumped out at end of season this will prevent any gumming up of carb . did you completely disassemble carb? does it have a primer on it, those gskts need replacing, clean out the jet in bottum of float bowl, small holes, sometimes missed and remove and check your needle/seat to make sure that when float drops gas runs out then lift float up and gas should stop. hope this helped you, another thing spray carb cleaner in carb and pull over and see if it will start that way enough to keep running with choke to see if it will **** gas into it

Bolt comes loose and rip cord is yanked from hand

  1. block off the blade and driver assembly with a 2x4 to keep it from moving
  2. remove the flywheel nut (regular hand force should be sufficient)
  3. tap the 3 holes on the flywheel (if they aren't already threaded) using 1/4inch 20national tap set
  4. remove the flywheel using a flywheel puller -- a harmonic balancer puller which matches the tecumseh bolt pattern on the flywheel also works using 3 1/4inch thread (20national, 2inch long) bolts with washers
  5. NOTE: (if the blade was removed/reinstalled, tighten the blade to manufacturer's spec of 60lbs) before installing the new flywheel key
  6. remove the sheared flywheel key
  7. clean up the flywheel (wipe off all the dirt and grease)
  8. install the new flywheel key (part 611004 for toro 20016)
  9. install the flywheel (pull the bail brake handle to get the ball-brake inside the flywheel)
  10. tighten the flywheel nut to manufacturer's spec of 37.5lbs
  11. prime the gas bulb, give it a pull and mow away

I have the same mower and problem. Found out the issue was the carburetor. Pull the Carb and do a quick cleaning. Order the replacement kit prior to working on. My bowl o-ring was shot and I couldn't get a seal after cleaning it out.

Billows of white smoke when Toro lawn mower runs

You overfilled the oil. If the mower runs, just go ahead and mow grass until it runs the oil out of the gas tank. Or you can empty the gas tank and fill with new gas. White smoke is not a serious problem. Only a hassle.

Got a Craftsman 6.25 HP push mower. Had it for just over 2 years. I pulled it out of the garage to mow the grass the other day, and it would not start. I used some starting fluid and it started right up....

Check the fuel line for cracks or breaks. Check the fuel filter if it has one. And finally, you may need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb. cleaner.

Toro TimeCutter z4200 will not start

First check to see if there is a fuel shutoff under the tank. On some models there is a fuel filter screen inside the tank where the fuel line connects to the tank. If niether of these work, R&R the carb.
