Question about JBL DSC 1000 Theater System

1 Answer

My JBL DSC 1000 receiver has stopped functioning. When I switch on, the power indicator turns orange, but when trying to operate, it turns to blue but other than that there is no response. No display, no sound, even the DVD tray doesn't open. Someone told that a reset might solve the problem. How do I reset the receiver. Owner's manual doesn't mention any reset procedure. Kindly help.

Would an 'elco' really be a capacitor?

We have ran into the exact same problem here, we are currently disassembling it and going to measure what the problem is. We know it has something to do with the powerboard... ill post some more later.

ok we are done fixing it... you need to check the elco's on the powerboard.. so open it up and check the top sides of those "containers". these should be completely straight.. if they are a bit round or they seem blown up a bit.. replace them.. solder them off, get new ones.. (we got ours out of a PSU for a PC.. resoldered them.. and it is working perfectly now.. good luck

if the elco is bulged on top, you need to replace it. Solder it off the board, en replace it with a new one. This solved the trick on the player we had the problem with..

replacing the Elco ( or electrolytic capacitor) solved the problem for us. it was bulged on the top, we soldered it off, got a replacement wich we soldered back on. This fixed the problem as desribed above.

PAIRING THE JBL SB400 FOR WIRELESS OPERATION
After turning the soundbar and subwoofer on for the first time, you will need to "pair" the subwoofer and soundbar so they both operate at the same wireless frequency. To pair the units, press the Wireless Pairing switches on both units within 30 seconds of each other. The units will communicate with each other and operate at the same frequency.

Hi Jayne.
The long-time-resetting-syndrome points, IMHO to an intermittent overloading fault causing a PTC, or resettable fuse, to become open circuit. These specialized fuses, once activated, can take minutes, days, or apparently in some cases, weeks to reset themselves.
Alternatively, it could be a dry solder joint, where the lead/tin/silver resin solder did not flow properly onto the component wire.
In this case, as sets warms up to a certain point, it works fine, until thermal expansion shifts the joint just enough to disconnect it.
Try slapping the back of the unit if it acts up, or get it checked out.
Regards, Clive.
