Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Our Maytag Epic Z model mhwz400TQ01 front load washer is leaking some water out the bottom of the washer unto the floor. It seems to leak mostly when there is water in the tub and the washer is tumbling. It doesn't seem to be related to filling or draining, therefore, I think it is probably the front door seal (bellows). I am quite handy with tools and repairing items so I would be willing to try to repair this if I can get some repair instructions. Is a repair instruction available and if so, where? Also, where is this part available? Thanks.

If it is indeed leaking form the door boot, you should be able to find a hole somewhere. Take off the bottom panel off the machine, and try to look up inside it to find the source of the leak. (Three screws underneath)

The part number for the boot is W10111435. It should be available at any major appliance parts shop, or online. Just google the part number.

As far as replacement of the boot, it is fairly simple, although it can be awkward to reach the clamp. The outer clamp, the clamp holding the boot to the washer cabinet it just a spring clamp, the spring should be at the bottom of the boot. It just pulls off with needle nose pliers. The inner clamp is a bit trickier. Once the outer clamp is off, fold the boot back into the tub so you can reach into the machine (make sure it is unplugged first!). The clamp screw should be ont the right hand side, about the 2 o'clock position. It unscrews with a 8mm nut driver (may be 7 or 9, I forget). One that is loose the boot will just pull off. The new one goes back on the same way, just press it into the grove on the tub (be patient) and put the clamp on and tighten. Don't over tighten, or the clamp will actually pull the boot back off. Just snug it down. A trick to use if the boot is too stiff it to throw it in the dryer to heat it up for 5 min or so.

Good luck!

My maytag epic z is leaking from underneath

Remove the front bottom panel. Should be three 1/4" screws on bottom lip of panel. See if you can tell where leak originated. Chances are good you just need to pop the cap off the drain pump and clean it out. Here is a vid that explains the procedure.

My Epic Z front load is leaking water . It looks like the gray rubber on the door is the cause. The machine is only 18 months old

In the front on the bottom of the gray seal is two drain holes, make sure there is not an obstruction in these drain holes such as a small sock .

I have front loader MFW9700 Maytag washer. Water

Check the door seal for tears and the drain boot from tub to drain boot for anything that might have put a hole in like a piece of metal from an under wire bra which front loads will spin so fast that the wires come out of the bras.

Water Leak from the Front Door of our Maytag Epic MFW9700S

The water leaking is most likely the gasket. It may have a little rip or something making it not seal. Im not sure about Maytag but on our GE we had to slide the the top back to remove some screws then (I believe to was for the control panel) Then we removed screws for the door and the front of the washer. When that was done you have to remove a round clamp that holds the gasket on. Then replace the gasket.

My suggestion is to have a appliance repair come and do it. Its a pain to do, at least it was for me.

hi there,

the FH error means it's either you have a drain problem if there is water in it or if if there is now water in it, make sure that both water inlets are turned all the way up. check to make sure that you don't have any water leaks anywhere visible.
