Your MBR (master boot record) somehow was altered...

Best way to fix this is to do a system repair which can be done either with the disks or by pressing a (f12) button for example when you power your system on right at the bottom of the screen (if you dont have restore disks) should be a line of text that says press F2 to enter bios F8 to enter boot menu etc... if you dont see press F(X) button then try to enter boot menu there may be an option there...

If all else fails contact your laptops manufacture about attaining restore disks

You need to get hold of a Linux operating system rescue disk to boot and reinstall the operating system.

See this website for details, it may be possible to recover your operating system using this CD downloaded on to another computer.

When turning on system sylvania name will appear with a message at bottom of screen telling me to press f2 or f10. If I dont press anything it will go to a black screen, at the top left corner it says...

Well, let see, it saying that operating system is not found. This mean that there is no operating system loaded. It is 80% that your hard drive is currupted 19% that the operating system is damage if your harddrive is not damaged... unless you have a operating system load to a external source such a usb thumb drive, flash driver. If you didn't. then most likely your hard drive is currupted. The only way to see this is to press the f2 or f10 which ever key that load the bios menu which is a blue menu after you press it. Then see if the hard drive is detected. If not then your harddrive is bad and needs to be replaced and a Os is need to be reinstalled in order to work. If you have another laptop or a desktop that can accept sata drive, you might want to test this if the other computer would detect it as in some case the expansion slot for the harddrive could come worn out and couldn't read your harddrive. But most of the time, it is your harddrive, it is bad and need to be replaced.

Operating system not found on my laptop

Unfortunately the OS got corrupted and you need to re install the Operating system. There is no other way to fix the problem but use the recovery disc.
If you dont have a recovery disc you may want to contact the manufacturer of your laptop and order one.
Or if you can use a retail version of Operating system and once finished installing you may need to download the drivers of your laptop on the support site.
Hope this helps.
