Question about HP Computers & Internet
I've seen a number of different laptops and desktops just "cut off" over the years, and in my experience it has to do with overheating issues. Maybe one of the fans inside your laptop is not working properly, and in order to protect itself, the laptop will shut off immediately.
You can try and monitor this using an application like Speed Fan. Which can be found here:
If you keep an eye on some of the temperatures after you install this software, and if the temps go up and then your laptop shuts off, it would be an overheating issue.
Has this happened before? Does it happen after having the laptop on for a long time, or a short time?
I would recommend making a backup of all your data as soon as possible just to be safe. And then follow up with a local repair shop or the manufacturer.
Hope this helps.

This could be from any number of things,
If your laptop was running on its battery its a good sign that the battery is on its way out or has not properly warned you of the critical battery status
If plugged in then its more then likely a heating issue as most laptops now a days (and for the past few years) have very powerful processors and heat up dramatically. If the laptop was not on a hard flat surface then its likely it was not venting properly and I would suggest getting a laptop pad or fan cooled pad for the bottom of it while your working on it
Or there could be a loose cord that you were unaware of and a small movment or gesture could have loosened it enough to unpower the unit.
