This could be just an issue with the contacts of the base not meeting the contacts of the kettle and no power is delivered. Cleaning may help it. This could also be an issue with the switch. Internally the switch completes the circuit by 'bridging' the conductors found inside. It could be the conductors are not touching each other. If refitting the switch will not help yo may have to replace it. If you have a continuity tester you may check continuity of the circuit from the end of the coil down to its corresponding terminal on the pot while the switch is at the 'on' position. Same goes with the other to check if the switch is good. Test also continuity from the switch to the plug to test of contact between the kettle and base is good.

Hi.

The switch does not get red because reach of adequate temperature is not detected. The problem is either thermostat or element. Both parts are tested using a multimeter set on Ohms to read impedance. if the part reads open, then it must be replaced.

Problem will be locating the part.

First call Breville and find out repair price and warranty status.

My Breville water kettle stopped heating water. This is my second teakettle to do this. We have had this second kettle for about 2 years. We always were careful to make sure the kettle is off before

Unless you can take it apart and repair it yourself, it probably isn't worth the cost to have it repaired. There are several websites that sell parts, but you really have to be familiar with electrical circuits to diagnose it. Possibilities are:
1. It could be the thermostatic switch that turns it off as it reaches temperature. These are little devices with two wires connected and are in the base of the unit. these normally reset themselves but can stop working, especially if they have gotten wet.

2. It could be the cord to the unit with a wire broken at the base or the plug end.
3. It could be a thermal fuse; these are about 1/4 inch in diameter and may be hidden in an insulating sleeve near the element; they are sensitive to both heat and current.

3. It could be the element is burned out.

How do I improve the electrical connection between the base and kettle of my Breville Ikon?

The kettle should be considered unsafe for continued use. It has failed as the parts used are not suitably rated for the load they carry. The only safe option is to replace the kettle with a new one.

Breville kettle blew fuse (trip switch) now won't switch on

If the 'neon' light is on, the power is getting to the kettle, so if its not heating up then the element must have broken.

This kettle has a little white trip switch inside the 'socket' of the kettle (not the base unit). If its not heating, light is not on and the plug fuse is OK, then poke the white trip until it clicks.

Spares for Breville Electric Kettle

Okay. I took the base off the kettle (made a special screwdriver). Saw that one of the contacts was loose on its 'swage'. Used a pin punch to re-swage it. Bingo! it worked.

Automatic switch off not working when water reached boiling.

There is no do it yourself fix for this problem. However, placing a folded cloth on top of the kettle (covering the spout) will cause it to switch off quicker, as it increases the pressure inside the kettle.

Problems with Breville SK500XL Stainless Steel Cordless Electric Kettle

There's a thermal cutout that trips if the regular safety switch isn't enough. According to the manual, if the thermal cutout trips you have to send it back to Breville for servicing.

That may be what happened, if just letting it cool down and trying again didn't work.
