Motor is running but the chain is not moving. When I assist it moves a few inches then stops again....in both directions. Almost as if teeth are boken in a wheel.

You are correct. There is a gear drive system and the gear is stripped. you can have the gear replaced and not have to purchase a new lift.

1997 Sable Driver Seat Only Moves 2 Inches At A Time

Could be the switch, but it sounds like the motor is going bad. However, I dont know if you tried to lubricating the tracs. Some of these seats are on ball bearings and some on nylon bushings, either way they need to be lubricated once in a great while. Have you tried to help the seat to move by pushing in the direction it is going to see if it speeds up. If so, the seat motor is going out or the tracks are binding up. I hope this helps.

Cannot move the chain by hand after the bar has been tightened.

First be sure the chain is on going in the right direction. When looking at the bottom of the bar the sharp tooth should be going towards the motor. When you put chain back on are the chain teeth properly engaged in the sprocket on the motor. Remove the cover again, check that teeth are in sprocket. Make sure pin from adjuster screw is engaged in the hole in the bar. Before you tighten the cover bolts, make sure chain will turn by hand. If not adjust the adjusting screw. Once adjusted, tighten cover bolts. Check again after tightening bar.

How do i know if chain is on correctly/

Does the chain move when the motor is started? Make sure the chain doesn't droop from the lower side of the bar and the teeth cut toward you on the bottom side. The chain should not be so tight that you can't move it by hand. Run the saw for a few moments with the tip near a piece of cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil onto the cardboard. Make sure that the chain is properly sharpened and cuts without undue effort. Hope this helps!

It moves up a few in. then stops. Then you push the button again it closes hard aginst the floor. I disconneted the dr andf it still dose the same thing.

The opener has lost track of what is open and closed. This MIGHT be due to damaged gears, but first get a manual and do the initial setup work.

You could disconnect the motor and manually move the carriage back to where is should be, then engage the motor again.

If this is a chain drive, the chain may have slipped cogs until it thinks the door is up when it is only inches up.

Motor runs but chain does not move?

Check the chain drive sprocket to see if it moves when the motor runs. If not, there may be a sheared key between the shaft and sprocket or the teeth on the sprocket are badly worn off. Hope this helps!

Have replaced drive gear on Craftsman GDO. Everthing engages and chain moves but door only opens 3 inches are so. Have ajusted opening cointrol on side to max and only 3 inches. When I unlatch GD from...

Loosen the chain enough that you can remove it from the pulley on top of the motor unit. Now with the door closed run the motor until the pulley turns in the clockwise direction and stops. Put the chain back on the pulley and tighten. You may have to tweak the up and down limits now.

I was sawing and the chain stupped turning. The brake is off and it will rev.

You should check the clutch assembly to see if the chain jumped off the clutch teeth or if the keyway that locks the clutch onto the motor drive shaft, has either broke or fallen out, etc.

You might also want to engage the brake back and forth a few times to make sure it is fully off, as sometimes they get partially engaged and stop the chain from moving until fully reset.

With a model number, more detailed info might be able to help assist you resolve the problem, but I've provided the basics to check out.

Hope you find this info Very Helpful - Best regards!

Gate will not completely close.

Most likely your chain is not going to be your problem. When you pull the cover off of your SL 3000 there will be a little rectangle box on top. There is either one or 2 screws holding the lid down...loosen the screws and take the lid off. Inside there will be a long screw drive with 2 plastic nuts with teeth. At either end of the screw drive you will find a switch that one of the nuts should be resting on. (these are your limit switches that tell the motor when to stop) Run the gate open and closed...when you run it closed see if it is hitting one of the limit switches when it stops. (turn off the power) If so, hold back the plate keeping the nut in place and move the nut further away from the limit switch.(don't move it too far so that you don't slam the gate too hard into the catch post and hurt the post/gate/motor) Turn the power back on and run it again. Repete this untill the gate is stopping where you would like it too. e-mail me with any further questions tgutierrez13@gmail.com
