Question about Kenmore 18.3 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator w/Through-the-Door Water Dispenser

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore refrigerator that perodically will just let a puddle of water out on the floor underneath it. The drain pan underneath is dry so I know that it's not overflowing. I had a service person look at it who couldn't find anything wrong. I'm thinking it's probably in the defrost cycle but what is causing the water to totally miss the drain pan underneath?

There should be a hose underneath the fridge that needs to be put back into pan.

GE Profile leaking onto floor

Clean the drain pan and drain line in the back of the freezer section behind the cover underneath the evaporator coil. (hint: use turkey baster with hot water) Make sure water drains when you pour it in. If it doesn't - also clean drain tube on the back of the unit behind the cover. When done - put the tube exactly where it was.
Good luck! :)

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back/bottom of freezer2_bing.gif..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curtain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking into the freezer and down the vent into the fridge instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you have any other question. you shouldn't have to touch that pan the water should evaporate by itself, are you sure you don't have a blocked drain in the freezer?is there ice on the freezer floor?if so melt out the ice in the back at the bottom of the freezer wall and then pour hot water down the drain to see if it's clear if not you have to find something you can stick into the hole to clean it out,i use a steamer to unblock the drain you can get one for 40 bucks it's a shark super steamer,if that's not the problem you could have a cracked water line, you'll have to take off the back panel on the bottom, and check the lines, have someone draw a glass of water while you check out the water line or it could be from the ice maker line if you have an ice maker

No cooling no freezing puddle on floor

Your defrost drain line is frozen over. Turn off the fridge and defrost the drain in the lower rear portion of the freezer.
