Question about Televison & Video
If the set has a lamp, I assume it is a rear projection TV with an LCD panel.
There are several possibilities. I presume you have already investigated the brightness setting in the TV control menu. That leaves the following:
If you have a smoker in the house, you may have tar buildup on the optics. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning the front screen. If the results are still not satisfactory, you may have to clean the internal optics. Caution: make sure the set is completely cool, and unplug it before cleaning the lenses and plates inside the set. Do not apply the lens cleaning liquid directly to the optics; there is a risk of dripping it into electrical or electronic parts. Apply it to a soft lens cleaning cloth, then use that to wipe the optical parts. If you removed a noticeable amount of tar from the front of the screen, you may also need to clean the curved mirror assembly that lines the upper back of the set, as well as the back of the projection screen.
If you have an oxidized terminal in the lamp holder, the bulb may not run at full brightness. On many sets this would generate a lamp error, but it may not be the case on yours. Remove the new lamp and inspect the terminals. Polish them if they are tarnished.
The ambient light in the room may be too bright, or the cover of the light level sensor on the set may need to be cleaned if it has one.
There could be a problem in the lamp regulation circuit besides the previously mentioned ambient light sensor. At this point you're getting into the electronics, and a service manual would be highly desirable.
