Thanks for your help demonic. I rang up the store and they told me exactly what you said. I think I will risk buying the DVD because I love it so much. If it doesn't work I will buy a separate multi region DVD player or a program that can break the code that is advertised on the internet for $9.95 and solve the problem once and for all.

Mine is a LCDV2258HDR with built in DVD. Surprised there is nothing in the manual about regions, it's in every other language.

It depends if the DVD player is separate to the TV or built into it. Assuming the DVD is a separate unit, it must be region 4 for Australia, unless specified otherwise (on the player's rear panel or in the operation manual). The only types of DVD players/recorders allowable in Australia are region 4, and multi-region. If the player plays region 4 DVDs, but not other regions, there's your answer. A model number and/or brand of the DVD player would help.

It is built into the TV. The info is not on the manual, neither on the back of the TV itself. I want to buy a region 1 DVD, but before I buy it I want to make sure it will run on my DVD player. The TV is a TEAC LCDV3256HDR.

Nice looking TV (according to the Harvey Norman site) - the built in DVD player would most likely be region 4. The only way to play region 1 DVDs with any degree of reliability is to purchase a separate DVD player (either a multi region or a specific region coded player to suit the discs) and simply connect to your TV (without affecting the built in one), or you can try a region 1 DVD in it, before considering a separate player, but I doubt it would play. The old saying is ' you never know until you try'. It might work, it might not. I don't think the built in DVD player is multi region.

MAKE Please this steps and fix it. Merry Christmas.
Turn on your DVD player.

Open the DVD player's main drive, also commonly called the DVD "tray." The region cannot be changed while a DVD is in the machine, so many DVD players require the tray to be open as an extra precaution.

    • 3
Push "Info" or "Setup" on your remote.
    • 4
Use the remote to select the "Region" option as indicated on your TV screen.
    • 5
Select "Region 9" to change the system to multiregion formatting. Regions 1 through 8 represent specific geographic locations and will not allow multiregion playback.
