I NEED TO HELP WIRING MY COMPAQ HOME COMPUTER

Set all items up ready to be installed Plug in your mouse and keyboard into the back of the tower. If u are using the old style connectors these have pins and will also be colour coordinated so you know where to plug into tower. They will have a notch inside so plug in carefully so not to break pins. If they are USB connections they will be square at the end and u will see where these plug in at the back of the tower these do not have colour coordination as u can plug in anywhere. Next your VGA cable, this is the cable that looks the same both ends with 15 pins in it. One end goes into your monitor and the other into the back of the tower these are shaped so they only fit in one way, again caution that you do not force in as you could bend the pins. Next ensure u have the power leads into the tower and the monitor, these are the cables with a plug on one end and a female 3 hole socket at the other, u will see where these plug into both devices. Next plug into wall ensuring socket is off first Then switch on Switch on your tower....monitor should come on by itself, if not hit the power button on your monitor Voila ...done

Moniter reads no signal but tower light is on

Have you changed your resolution recently? Have you installed any programs recently? Have you made any hardware changes lately? Make sure the monitor is firmly connected to the tower and to the back of the monitor. Is the monitor plugged into the wall outlet? If you have two video ports on the back of the tower make sure you are plugged into the correct one, you may also try switching to the other port. Try another monitor if you are able to or try the monitor on another tower to see if you can isolate the problem to the monitor. Do you get anything appearing on the monitor when you first start the computer up? Have you been using a video card or onboard graphics?

No sound from this monitor. I have everything plugged in , volume icon is turned all the way, mute is off, adjusted speaker levels, etc on my desktop.

Firstly,

You need to check if the green cable from the computer tower is blugged into the back of the monitor (The cable looks the same at both the ends) this is for the output to come through the monitor.

If that is plugged in and if not working, Try a headphone on the tower and check if the sound is coming from the headphone, If yes, You will have to adjust the volume on the monitor or the speaker of the monitor might have gone bad. If there is no sound coming in, Then the problem is with the tower and not the monitor.

I dont know how to hookup my monitor to the tower

You will have two plugs coming from your monitor
One will have a blue plug that looks a little different, the other one will have a regular plug which can be plugged into your power surge or into a wall outlet.
The blue one will match up with a port on your tower. If you look on the back of the tower where all of the plugs go you will see one that looks similar but is opposite to the one coming from the monitor. Make sure you turn it to fit then screw it in and you should be good to go

My hp2009m monitor goes into sleep mode

Monitors are programmed to go to sleep when there is no input. If you shut it down on the other "tower" also it will do the same. You need to physically hit the power button on the monitor to actually shut it off.
