Player experienced static shock from vinyl handbag, player turned off and will not turn back on. Feels warm on screen surface.

1: Remove the back and check and see if the battery isn't fully connected
I put a folded peace of paper and put it on top of the battery also push softly but firmly on the Rubber rectangle above the battery (This is the Chipset For the screen, Black screen Blue ring ) and put the back on.
2: RESET: Go into the settings and scroll down to reset all, push center button, scroll to yes, push center this will restore factory settings.....
3: Reset All
NOTE: THIS IS AN ADVANCED OPERATION AND RESTORES ALL SETTINGS
TO THE FACTORY DEFAULTS. NORMAL USERS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED
TO PERFORM THIS OPERATION!
If your device freezes up press the Menu button and hold for 15 seconds.
This is like a power down of the device. Once you perform the reset, the adjustments you made during last operation
will be gone.
This is what it states in the manual for the 260 sansa Page 29
4: Recovery Mode also resets system settings when unplugged... lock your sansa hold in the rec key on the left at the same time push the menu/power button this will take you to recovery mode then connect to the computer Start the update software

Recovery mode

If your Zen is in recovery mode, simply reboot it, and it should go back to its normal screen.

However, if you reboot it and it goes back into recovery mode again, that means there is some problem with your Zen--likely a hardware failure. It will need to be checked out by a technician.

Recovery mode

to switch to recovery mode flick the switch on the top towards the headphone jack (so you see the orange), then hold down the REC button on the side, and plug into you computer. KEEP IT HELD DOWN UNTIL THE PLAYER IS RECOGNIZED! the player will be recognized by dif name. you are now in recovery mode.

What i suggest you do is to look at this video on how to format your player...all data on it will be erased (like songs and videos) but it will be worth it!

NOTE: these are for when the player is in MSC mode
For Windows XP

For Windows Vista

I did this for my player and now it works fine!!!

If it won't exit recovery mode and you know the hard drive is good, then you've got to reload the firmware. Do you know the hard drive is okay?

Be careful, though -- you can NOT reload the firmware on an XP machine that has WMP11 installed. It HAS to be WMP10. If you search on Zen firmware, you'll find dozens of articles on the subject.

Ipod has gone into diskmode

In iTunes, you can change it in the menu. Click Options, Preferences, then IPOD. deselect enable disk mode, and make it sync normally. That should do the trick.

try the Reload Firmware option from the Recovery Mode menu? It makes a huge difference!

Seeing as how you can access Recovery Mode, can perform its disk operations, and seeing as how your computer does recognize it, it seems there's a good chance it's simply firmware corruption causing your problem.
