SOURCE: wiring manual for a thermalrock oceandome

Go here for complete motherboard support : http://support.asus.com/download/download_item.aspx?product=1&model=P4P800-E%20Deluxe Click on the + next to manual and it will take you here : http://support.asus.com/download/download_item.aspx?product=1&model=P4P800-E%20Deluxe  . Scroll down near the bottom of page to this copy : 'P4P800-E Deluxe User's manual for English Version E1867". Download a copy of the PDF file to file for reference.  I checked this manual and it has all the information you need, but you will have to quietly study it, and then print or  take down all the required information you need on paper, as you will have to turn off tthe PC and power to make all the wiring connections to the motherboard. SOURCE: i cannot connect my usb on my motherboard..ASUS

I put this as a reference to you. Look in your manual to see what it means. I picked p5 and p6 usb from your manual. from what you listed, you should have 8 wires like vcc1 and vcc2 there should also be -d1 and -d2 and +d1 and also a +d2. The 1 is a set and 2 is also a set. Dont mix and match. they have to go in a set.

set 1
vcc1 = usb+5v
-d = usb_p5-
+d = usb_p5+
gnd = gnd

set2
vcc2 = usb+5v
-d2 = usb_p6-
+d2 = usb_p6+
gnd = gnd

AHCI

choose RAID mode.. that should enable AHCI. (as per wikipedia) on your motherboard so that means.. that if you're installing the os on this hdd you may want to use the raid driver for it which is likely what's in the ASUS cd you got so your os get to use the hdd as it's meant to be used.

you may also want to make sure you're using the right sata connector on your motherboard: check page 33

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5B-VM

the problem could laso lay in your cables.. it's know the average may be affected by faulty SATA cable or faulty SATA power cable (powersupply issue)

you may also want to run a backup of your data and then run a defrag and a checkdisk on the drive, and it's probably also worth it to rung Seatools (download from this page: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/ ) to check the health of your hd.

Also try to update the SATA controller drivers or the motherboard chipset
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5B-VM

lastly, post the results of your tests here on fixya or better yet: in here: http://forums.seagate.com for further follow up.

try each recommendation one at a time and then test the speed of your hd to see if there's improvement.. make sure you back up before you do anything drastic.

good luck (it took me 2 hours to pos
