Question about Acer Aspire™ T180 PC Desktop

2 Answers

Won't boot.. The computer turns on and the fan runs and the little red light blinks for about 5 seconds then nothing happens...the cd-rom opens and closes, but that's about it. Before it did the same thing only it showed Acer on the screen it just wouldn't boot up so I unplugged everything and it booted up fine after that. Now, nothing is coming on the screen at all so I'm completely stumped!! =[

How do I check it one by one? I really don't understand how the cd-rom can be running and working, but the monitor shows nothing??

The computer is still running right? Can you hear fans running? Can you hear the hard drive running? The lights on the front pf the computer are they on, off, or blinking?

There is a similar problem posted here: http://www.fixya.com/support/t344696-acer_aspire_t180_ub72_not_boot

Unplug all USB devices as it may be trying to boot from a USB drive.

Ifyou don't have USB drives plugged in try booting into the BIOS to seeif the computer is booting that far. Restart the computer and keephitting the DEL button, that should get you into the BIOS.

hehe =D thanks for the previous rating... =D

Dear,
u unplugged everything and it booted up finely.
its mean that there is something wrong with the drviers.
check it one by one. just plug hard driver first and let is boot. if its still behaving the same as after plugging all then the problem is caused by the hard drive.

regards,

Hp compaq pentium 4 not booting, light blinks red 8 times

No solution, but I can give an idea of what's wrong.
In the quickspecs for this computer
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/productbulletin.html#spectype=worldwide&type=html&docid=13029
nder the expended Technical Specifications section, in the 'Serviceability Features of the system' section, under 'Diagnostic LED Explanation Table', it says 8 blinks of the red LED, repeated every 2 seconds, mean "invalid ROM, bootblock recover mode"

It seems that your BIOS ROM become corrupted. The solution to this problem depends on which BIOS you have. Search "invalid ROM, bootblock recover mode" for possible solutions. Restting the CMOS by shorting the two pins on the m/b might just work, but I doubt it in this case. You may have to get the contents of the ROM from HP and re-flash your ROM. Good luck.

PCV R44G, won't boot, no fans, won' turn on.

Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

Fan just work for seconds

Replace the fan or your computer will run hot and keep turning off.

Or are you saying this is what happens when you power on the computer? if so: When you press the power button do you hear fansrunning, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lightsconstantly blinking, hear the DvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer ofthe DvD/CD turn on for a second or two? If so the laptop is trying toboot or may have booted, but the screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.

What causes red led on starting?

Remove Power Cord then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then put the cord back in and try to start it.

When you press the Power Button are you hearing the fans run, the disk drive running, the cd drive click and the light on it comes on for a second or two?

Anything shows up on the LCD Screen?

If you press the power button and absolutely nothing is happening then you most likely have a bad power supply.

If you press the power button and you start hearing beep sounds or blinking lights in a continuous pattern (ex. 1 long followed by 2 short) then you have a motherboard issue. Those beep sounds and blinking lights tells the technician what is going on with the computer.

My d530 minitower powers off unexpectedly and red lights starts to blink on System's LED//

Hi Kindly let me know how many times the red light blinks
Condition Code Service Actions Processor thermal protection activated. Power LED blinks red twice, once a second, followed by a two second pause.
  1. Make sure the computer air vents are not blocked and that the cooling fan is running.
  2. Open the hood, press the power button, and see if the processor fan spins. If the fan is not spinning, make sure the fan cable is plugged into the cable header on the system board, and that the fan is properly installed and seated.
  3. If the fan is plugged in and seated properly, but is still not spinning, replace the processor fan.
  4. Reseat the processor heatsink and make sure the fan assembly is attached to the heatsink properly.
Processor is not installed. Power LED blinks red three times, once a second, followed by a two second pause.
NOTE: This condition indicates a missing or improperly installed processor, not a defective one.

Make sure there is a processor in the system. Reseat the processor and verify that it is installed properly. Power failure (power supply is overloaded) Power LED blinks red four times, once a second, followed by a two second pause.
  1. Check the voltage selector, located on the rear of the power supply, is set to the correct voltage (the correct setting depends on the region).
  2. Open the hood and make sure the 4-wire power supply cable is fully connected to the power connector on the system board.
  3. Check if a device is causing the problem by removing all attached devices (such as disk drives and expansion cards), then power on the system. If the system enters POST, power off and replace one device at a time, repeating the procedure until the system power failure reoccurs. Replace the device that caused the failure, then replace each of the other devices and confirm that they are functioning properly.
  4. If you cannot isolate the failure to a specific device in the previous step, replace the power supply. **
  5. Replace the system board.*
Pre-video memory error. Power LED blinks red five times, once a second, followed by a two second pause, and five simultaneous beeps are sounded
  1. Reseat the DIMMs in the memory slots on the system board, then power on the system.
  2. Replace the DIMMs one at a time to isolate the faulty module.
  3. Replace 3rd-party memory with HP memory.
  4. Replace the system board.*
Pre-video graphics error. Power LED blinks red six times, once every second, followed by a two second pause, and six simultaneous beeps are sounded. For systems with a graphic card:

  1. Reseat the graphics card and then power on the system.
  2. Replace the graphics card.
  3. Replace the system board.*

For systems with integrated (on-board) graphics, replace the system board. PCA (system board) failure. ROM detected failure prior to video. Power LED blinks red seven times, once a second, followed by a two second pause, and seven simultaneous beeps are sounded. Replace the system board. Invalid ROM based on bad checksum Power LED blinks red eight times, once a second, followed by a two second pause, and eight simultaneous beeps are sounded.
  1. Reflash the ROM using a ROMPaq diskette.
  2. Replace the system board.*
System does not power on. No beeps or blinks since the system is not functioning. Press and hold the power button for less than four seconds. Perform the following steps depending on whether the hard drive LED turns green.

If the hard drive LED turns green, then:

  1. Make sure the voltage selector (which is located on the back of the power supply) is set to the correct voltage for your region.
  2. Remove the expansion cards one at a time until the 3.3V auxiliary light on the system board turns on. If removing a card turns the light on, replace the card and then see if the system works.
  3. Replace the system board.*

If the hard drive LED does not turn green, then:

  1. Make sure the computer is plugged into a functioning AC power outlet.
  2. Open the hood and make sure the power button is securely fastened in the power harness and that the harness is connected properly to the power connector on the system board. In other words, make sure that the power button is making contact with the power circuit.
  3. Make sure the power supply cables are connected properly to the power connectors on the system board.
  4. Check to see if the 3.3V auxiliary light on the system board is not turned on, replace the power supply. **
  5. Replace the system board.*

HP CD Drive Will Not Open

Take a pin/needle, and stick it in the small hole which should be somewhere on the front of the dvd rom. This should open the drive a bit, so that u can pull it out. then close it, and try if it opens then. If it doesnt, then you will have to grease the sides of the slide (from the bottom) a bit with vaseline. open and close it manualy a few times, and try then. If it still dont work then, then you may need to replace the little black bellt which it has just underneath the tray, towards the front of the drive.

Good luck

GT5032 W/XP Media Edition

Try unplugging and opening the PC and removing the mainboard battery. *It's about the size of a quarter, a little thicker though" Hit the power button about 5 times. (Mind you this will reset ther board to factory settings and you will have to go into set-up and set the time back) plug the pc back up and you may be in buisness.
Hope this helps!
