Acer Aspire T180 Won't turn on--

The fans on the computer run and the red light on top flashes for a minute then nothing happens, it won't boot up at all. Before I had this problem it went straight to the Acer screen and wouldn't go any further so I unplugged all the usb cables and it booted up. The Cd-rom works fine when I turn the comp on, which gave me the impression that the hard drive was working, but I don't know for sure. I also tried taking it apart and that didn't work to my advantage either...any suggestions????? Thanks..

No, everything stays on the fan continues to run, the red light on top goes off after 5 sec and the monitor is just black...nothing appears..

  • Blondesooner Aug 14, 2008

Okay I tried hitting delete, but the problem now is the monitor displays "no signal", but the comp turns on and the fan runs...?? I did unplug my comp from the power source without restarting it first./.could I have crashed it??

  • Blondesooner Aug 14, 2008

No beep..I can just hear the fan..before it beeped oncee and then the acer screen would come up, but I can't even get it to boot because the monitor stays black and also my keyboard doesn't work now either..so where do I go from there?

  • Blondesooner Aug 14, 2008

I have the same problem. No beep on startup. Fans run slow. DVD runs can be opened and closed. Nothing on keyboard, mouse or monitor. All dead except monitor says no signal for a couple seconds and then black. Pressing power shuts fans off. A few times holding power button increased fan speed which I thought was good but not so everything else same. All what changed was fan speed and when fan speed increased DVD light was on but couldn't open drive. Please help

What do you mean by nothing happens? Does the computer power off? Fans go off? or Fans stay on lights are on but blank monitor?

Unplug all USB devices as it may be trying to boot from a USB drive.

If you don't have USB drives plugged in try booting into the BIOS to see if the computer is booting that far. Restart the computer and keep hitting the DEL button, that should get you into the BIOS.

Is there a beep sound from the computer when you boot it up? If so how many beeps? These beeps tell you if the computer is booting up properly.

I want to make sure the computer is not booting up at all, if it is booting up, then it means something is wrong video wise. Giving you a "no signal" on your monitor.

If there is no beeps, that means it would be a hardware issue.

    Reset the CMOS/BIOS.

    1. Shutdown, power off, and unplug the power cable from the computer.
    2. Open case up the computer.
    3. Look for the CMOS battery. As circled here:http://www.technibble.com/articlecontent...
    4. Remove it and leave it out for about 1min or more.
    5. But the battery back in and try to boot up again.

I'm trying very hard to cover the small things. Hopefully saving you from replacing a big part on the computer.

What do you mean by the keyboard not working? No lights lit up? Try hitting the Num Lock key to see if you get a led light.

Sorry about all the questions, but it gives me a better idea of what is going on with your computer.

As of right now with everything said... I believe it is the CPU that might be the main problem. If I computer has no cpu or a dead overheated cpu, the computer won't boot up and won't go to the BIOS.

I had a customer come into the shop with the same problem, I pulled everything out of the machine and left nothing but the essentials and still had no luck, I went back to the customer and asked what he was doing to it before it happened and he told me that he had hoovered all the dust out of the machine and that he also pulled out the fan covering the cpu to clean it but what he failed to tell me was that when he pulled out the cpu fan he also pulled out the cpu itself, so when he put the fan back in (with the cpu still stuck to the bottom of it) he had actually bent all the pins on the cpu, so after a time consuming job of straightening all those little pins I managed to get the machine up and running. Just hope none of you guys were dumb enough to make the same mistake.

I would remove all usb devices espesially front connecetions. If you mange to get into the bios, check priority of booting options

Try with unplugging all other devices except hard drive if it still not booting properly then the problem is caused by the hard drive.
try to boot is with dos cd or win98 cd and the do a format to windows and reinstall it if u can..
may be the problem is with the C drive containing windows.

remember to save you data to other drive in dos mode ...

Acer Aspire T180 wouldn't turn on...

Hi again.
It's the memory thats the problem, continuous beeps indicate a memory failure, take the system memory out and clean the contacts and the slots with a dry, clean paintbrush. Re-seat the memory and re-start the machine. If you still get beeps post back.

Good luck!!

Try tapping F2 as it is booting to get in safemode. If that works we're in business.

sounds like your fan is not running. Open the box and have a look to see if your fan is disconnected and if it doesn't appear to be turn your PC on and see if it works and if no result replace your CPU fan. Its a easy fix but im not sure how much replacement fans are so look into that and find out

Won't boot..

dear,
u unplugged everything and it booted up finely.
its mean that there is something wrong with the drviers.
check it one by one. just plug hard driver first and let is boot. if its still behaving the same as after plugging all then the problem is caused by the hard drive.
