Question about Toshiba G15-AV501 Qosmio Notebook

1 Answer

Toshiba G15-AV501 Qosmio - no video 1) Following is what I have tried - and did not work, by the way everything I installed had worked for over a month w/o problems, until...no video The problem began when one evening I set the portable down w/o the a/c adapter plugged in, it should have just powered down, instead it would not give me any video, it soulds as if it is starting, but that's it nothing else to go on. 1) Installed new memory ? brought it up to 2GB, I put the old (original memory back ? no effect) 2) Installed a Fujitsu 120GB , it replaced a 40GB Fujitsu (These were second drives ? (Not System or Boot, drives) ? I still have it removed, haven?t tried it ? just not hopeful of any change) 3) A replacement Toshiba battery ? chared it up and tried it- no effect 4) I tried installing the Recovery CD?s to no effect, it?s quite hard to tell much of anything w/o a display. 5) I tried installing a VGA monitor, and followed direction in terms of switching display devices ? nothing there either. I still have a few more ideas but I?m running out of time? a)

I am having the same problem. Same model laptop. I have changed no hardware. This laptop has been sitting around (not being powered on) for around 6 months. Now, it has to video, even if i plug it into another monitor.

I have a hunch, it's going to be the video card in the laptop. It's got a GeForce video card in it, so I'm going to replace it and see how that goes.

If anybody else has resolved this issue in another way, please provide that information.

    Thanks,
    Chad Smith

Well, I have good news for both of us.

Not only did I find a fix, it's free.

The F15 and G15 series Laptops (which we both have), have an Out-of-Warranty fix (for free). This is not normal, as you may know. The reason it's free, the motherboard is defective... I just called today and they're still replacing the motherboard for free!

Go to the Toshiba website and call their Tech Support number. They'll tell you it's out of warranty and they're going to charge you, just ignore all that. When you get your foreign tech support person on the phone, tell them you've read that the F15 and G15 series were defective and were being replaced free (even without warranty). They'll get your product number of the laptop, process the order, ship you a box (pre-paid shipping), you ship the laptop to them, they fix it, they ship it back, you're back in business!

FREE!

Toshiba Qosmio G15-AV501 will not boot

Subscriber/user FMFM85 had posted a solution for another laptop that worked for me. That was Power down, remove battery, remove power, wait five minutes, plug in power and do not install battery, I rebooted to last known good configuration. This method got me further along.from the absolute DEAD state the laptop was in. Now I know that the laptop is really hosed in other ways. I will keep you posted.

if there is still no boot then its safe to say that the motherboard or one of the two video cards has failed. its a pretty common on the qosmio g series

New hard drive for my Toshiba Qosmio G15 R laptop

I believe with Toshiba they normally would give you a recovery disk and then a drivers and utilities disk as well. If you don't have both then I would suggest installing windows xp and then go to this page:http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=SB&os=&category=&moid=835452&rpn=PQG10U&modelFilter=G15-AV501&selCategory=3&selFamily=804517Click on the downloads button and from there choose your operating system and you can download the drivers from that page. You'll know which drivers you'll need by going into the device manager and seeing what has a yellow question mark next to it.If you need more help with this let me know and I'll help you more.

I have a Toshiba Qosmio G15R and I need drivers

I went to the Intel site and downloaded the Intel® PRO/100 VE Network Connection driver here. It worked great. Now if I could find the right audio/multimedia drivers I'd be happy. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem, what you need to do is call Pamela Saunders at Toshiba Corporate in Irving, CA and she will get it repaired for you at no cost to you regardless of warranty. This is a bad batch of computers.

The Phone Number is: 800-457-7777 or 949-462-6000

Help with Toshiba G15-AV501 Qosmio bluetooth!!

The solution to your second problem is to insert the CD Qosmio Player Recovery CD. The buttons on the top do actually work (most of the time) yet it seems for some reason qccasionally it takes the CD refresh to get them working again. The picture and sound are great once you have got them working. So, don't be discouraged it's a great PC (once you have resolved your problems) I have had mine for 3 years w/o problems except for this one just described. Good luck.

One other thing I did have trouble with the Bluetooth, I resolved it by buying a Targus Bluetooth dongle, (disaabling all built in Bluetooth) then everything "paired" and worked easily, (unlike the built-in)
