The unit may simply has a calcium scale build up and it's blocking the water passage. To clean it, empty in water remaining in the tank. Mix a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar and Bottled Distilled Water and fill the tank. Allow it to soak for at least one hour, then turn the unit ON. Place you hand in front of the misting nozzle to see if it's working. If you don't feel any mist, turn the unit OFF and allow it sit over night. If you do feel mist, allow it to run until the tank is 3/4's empty Turn the unit OFF, pour out the remaining solution and refill with Bottled Distilled Water. Run the humidifier until it's empty. This will flush the system entirely. In the future, I would recommend you use Bottled Distilled Water, instead of Tap Water. If you do, you won't have to descale the unit any more.

Hope this helped you, please let me know. Thanks.

No steam is coming out?

Try salt in the water, booklet in mine recomends salt to create steam, but don't add too much or you'll end up with a mini giser!!!
Hope this helps, if not, it's possible that the heating element is bad. Try the salt, then turn on for 1/2 hour or so, remove the cartridge from the water resivore and slowly stick a finger in to see if the water is hot or cold...

Hi have a vicks warm steam vaporizer model v188. works great, just wanting to clean it. Can't find my manual anywhere.

The easiest ans simplest way to clean it, is too mix a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar & Bottled Distilled Water (enough to fill the tank) and fill the the tank with the solution. Allow it to set for 30 minutes, then turn the unit ON. Allow it to run, until the tank is half empty. Pour out the remaining solution and fill with the Bottled Distilled Water Turn the unit ON and run until the tank is almost empty. Following these instruction will remove all the lime and calcium build up in the unit.

Tip: Using bottled Distilled Water rather than Tap Water, will totally eliminate calcium and lime buildup.

I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I had left my vicks vaporizer with water in it for like a month or longer and barely cleaned it out and now it doesnt work no steam or nothing will come out wats wrong is it broken???

The problem is more than likely due to a calcium and mineral build up in the tank and the tubing.
Hopefully, it's not to late to do something about it. So follow the instructions below,

Unplug the unit.

Remove any remaining water from the tank.

Mix a 50/50 solution of White Distilled Vinegar and Bottled Distilled Water (enough to fill the tank) and pour the solution into the tank. Allow t to sit overnight. In the morning, plug the unit in and turn it ON. If it doesn't start producing steam, turn the unit OFF, unplug it and empty the tank. Mix more solution as described above, pour it in the tank and allow it to set for 3 or more hours. The plug the unit in and turn it ON. Hopefully, this time, it will start to produce steam. If it does allow it to run until the tank is half empty. Turn the unit OFf and empty the remaining solution from the tank. Refill the the tank with Bottled Distilled Water and run the unit until it's empty. That will flush the system.

In the future, I would highly recommend the use of Bottled Distilled Water, rather than using tap water.

If the above didn't solve the problem, it's time to buy a new humidifier and use Bottled Distilled Water in it.

I turn the humidifier on l or ll. The light is grean but it is not releasing steam or anything. I don't hear a noise and the water level stays the same.

The humidifier may be clogged with a calcium scale build up. Especially, if you use well water or your municipal water supply has a high chemical content.

To solve this problem do the following. Mix a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar and Bottled Distilled Water (enough to fill the tank). Empty any water that is currently in the tank and fill it with the 50/50 solution. Allow at least one hour, before turning the unit ON. After turning it ON place you hand in front of the mist nozzle to see if any mist is being generated. If it's generating mist, allow it to run until the tank is 3/4's empty. Then turn the unit OFF, unplug it and empty the remaining solution. Refill with Bottled Distilled Water and run until the tank is empty.

If the unit did not produce mist after one hour of soaking, allow it to set over night and then follow the procedure above. Generally, an overnight soaking will do the trick. In the future, I recommend using Bottle Distilled Water rather than your tap water.

Hope this helps you solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

I bought our Vicks vaporizer and it worked great the first night we used it. We had added a pinch of salt and it steamed all night. Now my husband is sick and we cannot get it to work correctly. We added...

When you say you added apinch of salt I asked my wife and she says that is the measure that she uses. I doubt that you have to much salt but you can flush out your vaporizer with warm water while the unit is running. I would run two or three times for 1-2 hours each then remove element and rinse withe warm water. Also rinse out container and refill with warm water to fill line, make sure you don't overfill as this can cause the spitting. I would add about 1/4 cup of pure vinegar and let unit run. If you have hard water or high mineral content this should help to clean it.
I hope this helps you but if it doesn't I would return it as defective. Thank you

I added water and the vicks medicine and no steam

medication was never meant to go into a humidifier. it clogs the transducer. if you can clean the vicks off the transducer plate you might squeeze another season out of it, otherwise by adding medication to the machine you just gave it an early death.

Vicks caporiser is spitting water instead of steam

Clean the unti - and do not add salt. I live in a major hard water city...and was amazed at how much dirt the tank collected. I tried adding salt to to stop the spitting, which did make a lot more steam, but did NOT stop teh water spit. I also noticed, with salt added, water in tank would only last 4-6 hours, not the 18-24 hours it should. I just figured it out, and now mine works great again, and does not spit. I cleaned the water tank throughly, several rinses, then wiped out entire inside. If you want it to work like new, you have to keep your tank as clean as new. I am going to start filtering my water that I put in with a double pantyhose I made simply so there no more dirt ~ a clean tank will fix the problem, it did mine :)
