Sir,
I have a V2000 notebk. Inspite of changing the boot order it does not boot from the cd. The boot order displays CD-ROM whereas i have a DVD-ROM. Is this the problem? Can you give me clear steps on how to go about rectifying this problem?

If you are trying to boot from a windows cd, the boot menu will be correct, but you need to press ENTER when prompted to boot from the windows cd, the fact that you have a dvd drive makes no difference, the only other problem maybe that if you are using vista the system cannot recognise the discs written format type

How to change setting in bios to boot from cd drive"?"

you usually dont have to change the boot order to boot from a cd. the bios should check the cd rom before booting from the hdd. However, if that isnt the case, you can always change the boot order.

go to the bios settings while u turn your laptop on. (It should be "esc" for HP. a message will be displayed at the bottom of the screen indicating the key. if not, try esc, f10, f11, f12. either one of them should work).

go to the boot order settings (May have a different name- boot settings/ boot priority settings/ advance boot options etc.).

Put the HD in an other computer , start the instal process and let the installation program copy all files to HD. Just when computer is to restart you turn off the computer and put the HD in the C400 and continue the installation from there . When you got one computer going , clone the HD.
Try also to repartion and reformat (hard) the HD.

I replaced the hard drive, now I cant boot from the cd drive to add an win xp.

What kind of computer do you have? You may have to change the boot order for it to boot from the cd. You can do this by going into the BIOS and changing the boot order, be careful of what you change in BIOS\Setup. Or you can watch the display when it's booting. It should give you an option for Boot Menu. Press the indicated key for entering the Boot Menu and then choose CD\DVD, then press Enter. Follow the prompts after that.

Can't boot up to CD

You need to go into bios by pressing F2 or delete at boot up. Once you are in setup you need to change the boot sequence to the cd drive as number 1 and the hard drive as number 2 then press F10 to save and exit. then reboot the computer and it will boot off the cd.
Hope this helps.

Factory.settings

Hi,

According to what you have said, you might have created the Recovery disks after purchasing the notebook. Now you are trying to restore the notebook to factory settings, but they are not working.

Even you have tried to F11 options to restore notebook using the Recovery partition of your notebook.

Let me assist you in this regard.

If the recovery disks are not booting, then we have to check if the issue is with the disks or with the CD/DVD drive itself.

To check that, you need to try to boot with any other OS CD. If the notebook is booting with other OS disks, then the issue is with the Recovery disks itself.

Even F11 option is not working, you have to make sure that D: Recovery is not removed.

For your information, if the issue is with the Recovery disks, then you can purchase the Recovery disks from Hp at very low price.

You can order them from the below link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=500508

Under
CD-ROM order page - Recovery Discs you can order the place order for Recovery disks.

Hi, I need to Format my Presario V2000 notebook but i'm not sure how to perform this action, can anyone please be able to help me ? Thanks Dan

Hi Dan,
O.k. You will need to use the recovery or operating system disc. At start up you will ned to boot from the CD, do this by either entering the boot menu and selecting the CD drive, or entering the bios/set up and changing the boot order to where the CD drive boots before the hard drive. Both of these actions are done at start up, there is an initial screen that prompts you to press a key in order to enter the boot menu or bios/set up. Once you have booted from the CD, you will follow the steps and it will guide you through the process.

Compaq laptop/no boot up

Hi,

Initially it may be suspected that your laptop is detecting a hardware problem, probably the hard disk. Since it partially boots and there is display, the following can be ruled out: video card, memory and display systems. That would leave us the hard disk and the motherboard left. If the motherboard is in question, chances are it is the BIOS.

Pls try and verify that the hard disk is connected snugly. The hard drive is usually inside one of the slots covered by a panel/lid held by a single screw.

If your concern has not been corrected after completion of the above procedures, further diagnosis may be required.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FIXYA.

Reinstalling Windows on Presario V2000

Well, you can install XP as long as you have a CD and your laptop has a COA with a key. Hit delete, F2 or F10 to start the system in setup, change the order of boot devices to make the CD your primary boot device. Restart, boot into the CD and follow the prompts. After you complete your installation you can go to www.hp.com SUPPORT and DOWNLOADS and find whatever drivers you are missing. Take your time and you'll do fine.
