Would a Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Dual-Core CPU 2.4GHz Socket LGA775 1066MHz 4MB be compatible with a Dell 530s?

you need to know what motherboard you have. If you download a free program called Belarc and install it it will give you all the information about your pc. Once you know what motherboard you have then just google it and see what cpu's are compatible.

I have an Intel(R) pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80 GHz and would like to know if a (simmtronics) ram of 2 GB DDR3 will work properly on it?

This will depend on the motherboard, not the CPU. Please add a comment with the details of your machine. (Even the brand and model for a pre-built machine will be needed to track the information down.)

The computer that I use for browsing has this CPU (Pentium 4 2.80 GHz) and only supports 1 GB memory per slot.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(My system started as a stock IBM 8433-98U. The CPU and the motherboard are the only original parts left in the box.)

Dell inspiron 531 motherboard specs

Dell Support > Inspiron 531 Desktop PC > Owners Manual,

Click on Specifications in the list, or scroll the page down a little.

Gives you a general options of Processors. Doesn't specify the exact AMD processor in your computer. There's a way around this, and much better, than using what your computer states in System Properties - General tab.
(Left-click on Start, then Right-click on My Computer. Using WinXP)

Does tell you the motherboard chipset is an Nvidia MCP 61.

{ MCP61 (S/V) }

Also tells you that you have a PCI-Express x1 slot, and a PCI-Express x16 slot.

(PCI-Express x1 slot is used for add-on cards that would be PCI, but are further enhanced using the faster serial connection of PCI-Express. NOT used for a graphics (Video) card.

The PCI-Express x16 slot is for a PCI-Express graphics card.

What PCI-Express version is it?
Due to the year the computer was made, and the motherboard chipset, it is the PCI-Express 1.1 version, IMHO.

Does it matter if you use a PCI-Express graphics card based on the PCI-Express 2.0, or PCI-Express 2.1 technology

PCI-Express 2.0 and 2.1, are Backward Compatible with PCI-Express 1.1

Will you get the full capability of a graphics card based on the PCI-Express 2.0, or 2.1 technology?
Will you notice?
NO. )

The way to find out exact information about your motherboard, and without opening your computer, is to use CPU-Z from (Provided the motherboard is in a working computer)

Information on CPU-Z,

Left-click on the CPU-Z screenshot to the upper Right. This will enlarge the view.

Note the CPU tab. When CPU-Z is opened, the CPU tab is automatically open by default.
(CPU = Processor)

There is also a Caches tab, a Mainboard tab, (Motherboard), Memory tab, (Ram Memory), SPD tab, Graphics tab, and About tab.

A) The CPU tab will tell you who made the Processor in your computer, what the model number is, and a host of other pertinent information.

B) The Caches tab deals with the Processor's cache.

C) The Mainboard tab deals with the Motherboard.
Tells you the;
1) Manufacturer,
2) Model,
3) motherboard Chipset,
4) Southbridge of the motherboard chipset,
5) BIOS manufacturer, Version, and Date,
6) and a host of information on the Graphics Interface used.

D) The Memory tab tells you about the Ram Memory installed.
1) Type (DDR Sdram, DDR2 Sdram, etc)
2) Size (Amount in MegaByte's. MB)
3) Whether the ram memory is being used in Single Channel, or Dual Channel.
4) Timings

E) The SPD tab relates to the Ram memory also.
(Serial Presence Detect)
You can click on the down arrow to the right of the ram memory slot box, and check out each individual ram memory module. ('Stick')

(The box will have Slot 1 in it. If you click the down arrow, you can then click on the Slot you want.
IF there is a ram memory module in THAT slot)
{ More on SPD, }

F) The Graphics tab tells you a general information on the graphics chipset, on your motherboard, (Integrated Graphics), or the graphics card that is installed. (IF installed)

Use GPU-Z for more information on the graphics chipset.

G) The About tab tells you about CPU-Z.

This is the CPU-Z homepage on,

CPU-Z is a tiny, free program.
After you click on - Download now! in the purple rectangle, a small window will come up on the right
Opening cpu-z_1.56-setup-en.exe

Left-click on Save File.

Another small window will come up.
In the wording at the top of this window tells you where the file will download to.
It may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads in the wording.
Write it down.

Desktop: The file will be on your desktop screen

My Documents: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents

Downloads: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

When you see the file name DOUBLE-click right on it.
Follow the easy instructions.

When you are done it will automatically open to the user interface I showed you above.
There will also be an icon on your desktop screen.
