I am having the exact same issue here and almost at my wit's end. I have a Toshiba Satellite a135-S4527 with Vista home premium and the latest ACPI-compliant BIOS update. When the machine is on AC power and i try to shut down, it will shut completely down and stay off for approx. 3 seconds, then power itself back up. When running on battery only, the machine will stay shut down. All power management settings are properly configured (default settings), hibernation is off, and there are no "wake-on" settings in the BIOS that are not disabled. The event viewer shows line after line of critical kernel-power problems (Event 41) and the details pane is always the same, showing "The last Sleep transition was unsuccessful". This is continuing to occur even though i have turned off ALL sleep settings and triggers. Any thoughts on where to go next? Thanks in advance for any help. TNHello all,

It seems like you are experiencing a "No power/no post" issue on your laptop, here are my recommendations :
Disconnect everything attached to your laptop (USB cables, etc)
Disconnect the ac adapter
Carefully remove the laptop's battery
Press and hold down on the power button for at least 10 seconds
Connect the ac adapter to laptop without the battery and turn it on
If this works, return the battery to the laptop and try it again with the ac adapter
If none of the above procedure works, then the laptop needs to be serviced. I've included Toshiba's support contacts below for your further reference :
i would say try replacing the battery or the ac adapter. I had the same exact problem on my toshiba a105-s171. my battery was dead because the ac adapter failed to charge. Replaced the adapter and it works now.
take it with you when you go and try the new cord before you buy it , Toshiba's are Notorious for the charger cords to be crappy and also the port for the laptop itself to break and need repairing , witch you have to send it to toshiba to get done if that is the case
First that u need to do is to remove the battery from your toshiba laptop. Plug in the AC adapter alone and power it on. If it works, then u need to check your battery. If the notebook wont power on with the AC adapter alone, then i think its a NO POST issue. The motherboard needs to be checked.
Try removing your battery and then plugging in the AC adapter. The damage could also be to the motherboard or PSU. So keep that in mind but you may be able to get it slightly operational by removing the battery.
