Altec Lansing VS4121 sub-woofer stopped working, making a low hum, right and left fine. Possible fixes?

3 causes. generic. then real.
60Hz hum/.
  1. the PSU inside the SUB is bad, as in bad CAP's inside.
  2. input cables to it bad, shields broken (coax cables)
  3. bad source signals from what ever is connect to the sub.
in this case (no pun) the main case is the SUB and the PSU is inside the sub
so sub bad. or
test it with no L/R speakers yet , it still hums or is dead well the main unit is bad and needs service. OR

the main has cable from PC to MAIN SUB case.
IF this cable is bad, is first check.but that would make L or R fail too.
a bad shield will not only effect the sub speaker, (hum)
the PC end is only 3 conductors L and R and shield. some are sold double shielded, and are prime to own..

try a new 3.5mm phone patch cable, just in case his fixes it cheap.
or the 2 cable ends to PC , phone plugs are lose
or dipped in spilled drinks gunk.

or PC is bad , ( try other sources , PC, phones, or mp3 /dvd players.)
the PC bad would effect R or L too. IMO

What cable connects a Dell PC to a Harmon Kardon HK395 sub woofer?

3.5 m/m. Normally it is color coded green. The pink connects the subwoofer to the speakers. Any color will work. Just mark both ends of wire jacks.

How do I connect jbl psw1200 sub?

Well, it depends what you're connecting it to....

If it's a stereo receiver or Hi-Fi amp, then the speaker cables that would normally go direct to the front L & R speakers now connect to the sub's L&R speaker OUT sockets. Then you need two extra lengths of speaker cable. These go from the receiver's speaker outs to the sub's L&R speaker IN sockets.

Connecting to a surround receiver, just use the phono/RCA cable from the receiver's "Sub Pre Out" to the white phono/RCA labeled Low Level IN.

Selector knob set to Normal/Casual wash but system shows Quick Wash selected.

Other positions of the selector know also gave incorrect selections. Close inspection shows a discoloration (cold solder joint) of the cable solder connections on the selector switch sub-assembly pc board going to the main pc electronic control panel. Since there are more (13) positions of the selecor switch than wires in the connecting cable, the switch position data must be encoded. The fix is to rework (unsolder and resolder) the cable connections on the switch sub-assembly pc board. The machine has been working without fail since this fix.

I have bought JAMO sub 250 subwoofer and Pioneer VSX919AH-K amp. Please advise how can I connect them. The amp has one RCA out for sub but the sub has two line in sockets (left and right). Do I need to use...

Hi,
You don't need such cable, although you can use it if you have one. If receiver has only mono SUB output (as majority of receivers have), you just connect it to the Left socket on the Sub and it will work.

Using the Y cable would probably cause that you will fed the same signal to both left and right sockets, but half the intensity (you would divide the output from receiver by 2). So in the end the Sub would receive exactly the same signal as when using normal straight cable.

  1. Use a D-SUB cable to connect the PC’s D-SUB output jack to the LCD TV’s VGA input jack. Use an audio cable to connect the PC’s audio output jacks to LCD TV’s.
  2. Connect all AC power sources, before turning on the power switch of the LCD TV or other connected equipment.
  3. Press the button on the remote to turn on the LCD TV.
  4. Press the Input button on the remote to select COMPUTER.

How to connect unpowered subwoofer to receiver with RCA sub out?

In order for this to work, you will need an external amplifier. Your receiver is set up to use a "powered" sub. With only speaker connections on the sub, it is a "passive" sub requiring a separate amp.
