Loading pictures to a computer

Denise - you didn't provide *any* details so the help I can provide may be rather limited, but here goes:

You can transfer pictures to a computer a couple of different ways. The first method requires that you install any software that came with the camera on your computer and reboot. Next, connect the camera (powered off) to the computer with the included cable - which is almost always a USB type on one end and one that fits into your camera on the other. The camera will need to have working batteries, so be sure that they're good. Turn the camera on and the camera software should automatically detect the camera and start up. You should be able to transfer, possibly edit and save your pictures on the computer. If you didn't receive software with your computer, skip the software installation step above - but do the rest. Double-click the Computer icon (to show you the hard drive and DVD/CD icons) and look for a new drive. The new drive represents the camera memory. You can open the drive and work with the picture files just like they were files on a hard drive. Move, edit, copy, delete or save them as you see fit. The drawback to this method is that transfers from you camera are often slow and of course you need batteries. A second method is not limited by these - but does cost money. Keep reading.

The second method requires the use of a "card reader"
11_27_2011_1_38_35_pm.jpg
An external USB multi-format card reader.

Card readers are powered by and transfer files via the computer's USB port. They run at significantly faster speed than the camera and can be purchased for as little as $10. To use them, install software included with the reader (if any) and reboot. Connect the reader to the computer's USB port. Remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into the appropriate slot in the card reader. A message stating that a new device has been found and software is being installed will appear on the monitor. Double click the computer icon and look for a new drive icon. Double click the new drive to show the image icons on the memory card. Move, edit, copy, delete or save them as you see fit. When done click the "Safely Remove USB" icon in the System Tray and then click Remove. If you don't see this - simply remove the reader from the USB port or the memory card from the reader slot and you will be shown how to do it properly the next time.

Be sure to FORMAT the memory card after you insert it into the camera before shooting new pictures. Formatting the card on your computer is not the same - and should be done in the camera. Formatting removes ALL data from the memory card, so if you wish to leave images on the card to show others on the camera - do not format. As mentioned above, the format should be done before taking new pictures.

Sd don't work

Hi:
Does your SD card reader show up as a drive when you go to : "My Computer" ? if it does, insert your SD card again, and see if the pictures are veiwable when you double click on the drive icon.

If the drive is not showing up in the my computer page, the driver might not be installed or the actual drive might be dirty or defective. You can check this by going to "control panel" , "system", and then "device manager." The SD card device should show up without any yellow exclamation points by it. If any devices have exclaimation points by them, you need to research what they are and find the proper driver for them to work.

Bought myself a 14 in 1 card reader to read my new 16gb SDHC card, however, when I try to format or transfer anything onto my new SDHC card, it gives me the error that it is write protected, even though it...

Are you using software that came with the reader? Maybe that is the problem. Are the correct drivers installed? Check the device manager and make sure it does not show a problem device. Are you using my computer and clicking on the removable device? Does the card work ok in other computers or devices? Is your computer only USB 1.0 and the card reader requres USB 2.0? Are the USB 2.0 drivers properly installed on your computer? Try removing the software and drivers, re-boot, and just install the drivers and not the software.

How to format corupted microsd

Before you start, please make sure you have a reader that can read and write to 2GB card properly. DO NOT use in built-in reader on laptop and desktop, or old readers made 2 years or longer ago, because these readers can only use up to 1GB card. I recommend using it in external USB 2.0 reader that is made within 1 year ago.

If you do not have such reader, then connect the device (gps/camera/pda/camcorder) to the computer with USB cable and the card inserted and if works you should see new drive letters show up under My Computer.
Otherwise, if used in devices that do not support the 2GB card, the card will be damaged.

Please try the following troubleshooting guide first and see if it can solve the problem. Try one step at a time. If one works, then you can stop trying. You don't need to try all of them.
The following guide will erase all the data on the drive/card. So make sure you backup your data first before you try the steps below:

1. First, remove the card/drive from your computer.

Download the low level format tool below to your computer.

http://hddguru.com/download/software....2.36.1181.exe
Install the program into your computer.
You should see a new icon called "Hard Disk Low Level Format Tool".
a. Insert the card/drive and run the program.
IMPORTANT!!! MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE CORRECT DISK OR YOUR COMPUTER MAY NOT START LATER!!!
It should shows as BUS: USB. Select the BUS: USB. Also check the size and make sure.
If you don't see BUS: USB, that means the card is unreadable and need to be replaced. In this case, please STOP here and close the program and DO NOT continue below.
b. Then click Continue->Low Level Format->Format this Device.
c. Wait for a few minutes until it finish successfully with a message of asking you to partition and format it. (if you see formatting error, you can stop the formatting and the card needs to be replaced.)
d. Flash Card:
Put the card back into your device and then use the format utility in the device to format the card.

Getting it back on my computer

I had a similar problem with camera software, so I just bypassed it. I bought a UsSB all in one card reader for about $20.00. It's about the size of a credit card, and you just plug it into a USB port, plug the memory card from your camera into it, go to "my computer" and it will show up as "removeable drive C or D or whatever. Click open, and there will be your pictures to do with whatever you want, save, delete. etc.Create a folder, rename it, save your selected photos, then choose select all, delete, to clear your card. You will notice a new icon blinking in the lower right taskbar. Click on it and it will ask , do you want to unplug device? Click yes ,and you can safely remove card reader. It works for me. I have my pictures saved in a folder to use with any imageing software I want to. Hint: all kinds of software available to download at tocows.com. good luck, John

PNY sayes you need a drive installed from their site. The problem is you can't get to this driver through their site, so I have emailed them at this time to fix the link.

Try them in a couple weeks maybe they will have fixed it by then.

Sd card

First you need to see if the computer reconizes the reader, to do this you double click on the computer icon on your desktop, then look to see if there are any drives other than your hard drive and cd roms. If the computer does not see the reader then you may need to download drivers. As to how to get the drivers it depends on your setup if the reader was installed in the computer when you bought it then you will want to go to the computer manfactuer website, if you bought the reader seperatly then you should have recived a disk with it if not go to the website of the card reader manfactuer.

Hope this helps.
