Sewing in a zipper is a fairly easy process, though a bit hard to explain in words :) You need an iron, pins and a zipper foot for your machine. The zipper foot allows the needle to get close enough to the teeth of the zipper without the foot getting hung up by the teeth.
The best thing to do in order to understand the process if you've never done one before is to look a a video on youtube and watch how a zipper is put in. Here is one link that shows how to insert a zipper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ue5z2rWS588&feature=related ...but there are several others too. Some show specifically "invisible zippers", some show side seam zippers and others show how to put one in where you have a waste band. When you get to the link above look to the right side of the page where you will see other videos to pick from too.
There are lots of interesting sewing videos on youtube. You'll note that though the process is basically the same different seamstresses have different tricks for getting a straight and tidy looking zipper.
