Hi, you can do a simple check to establish which is at fault, your battery or power pack.
If your computer runs OK on the power pack then the battery is at fault. If the computer will not run on the power pack then the power pack is the cause.

Does the power cord not work? Did your laptop battery completely die and won't hold a charge? Anything happen to it recently like hardware/memory installation or did it get dropped? No power outages or lightening strikes?

There are several steps you can take to help you get maximum performance from your Laptop Battery:
Prevent the Memory Effect - Keep the Laptop Battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Exceptions to the rule are Li-ion batteries which do not suffer from the memory effect.
Keep the Acer Laptop Battery Clean - It's a good idea to clean dirty battery contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol. This helps maintain a good connection between the battery and the portable device.
Exercise the Battery - Do not leave the battery dormant for long periods of time. We recommend using the battery at least once every two to three weeks. If a Laptop Battery has not been used for a long period of time, perform the new battery break in procedure described above.
Battery Storage - If you don't plan on using the Laptop Battery for a month or more, store it in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects. Ni-Cd, Ni-MH and Li-ion batteries will self-discharge during storage; remember to recharge the batteries before use.

When i turn on my asphire 5050 nothing happens only the power lite is on

step one... unplug the laptop from the wall.
step two... remove the battery from the laptop
step 3...... plug the laptop back into the wall
    step 4------ turn on laptop...

if it turns on you have a bad battery and it needs to be replaced...

if you have no wall power and turn on the laptop, the reverse is true... meaning your battery is fine and your power cord/inverter is bad.

I have an acer aspire 5050 and the computer works fine except for the port that you need to charge the battery. When the battery is low, you plug in the computer and it doesnt read the charger,...

It's has a colder solder or bad connection at the power jack - Acer's are notorious for this problem. It's a bad design. They have a tendencies to break easily if you tug too hard on the cable. The only way to fix this is to dissect the entire laptop and re-solder or replace the power jack.

The pin in the middle of the power jack has come out so battery can no longer be charged

Your best bet is to purchase a new power cord, you can pick one up from Amazon for about $20.
