Engine starts, runs for awhile and then inexplicitly quits. Starts up again and when it begins to quit, I push the primer button and it says running, but only for a little longer. When warm, it stays running longer but still quits. ?????

Well you know you have a fuel starvation problem and it is not the filter. so begin by getting a rebuild kit for the carb, from a small engine repair shop, giving it a good soak in cleaner while it is in pieces. make sure all the passages are open and reassemble it. if you are not confident in your take apart and rebuild skills you can pay a shop to do it for you. i think your choke enrichment is doing OK, just like the primer, the basic keep it running supply is plugged.

Engine stslls while driving usualy starts back up. now wont start .have fuel, new throttle position sensor, idle air control, sounds like pump is getting, help????

you don`t say how you know it has fuel. did you check the fuel pressure with a gage and did you check the fuel volume as well. this sounds like a fuel pump problem.

Hard starting on a Makita line trimmer? How do I solve this issue?

Try pushing the primer 8-10 times hold the throttle wide open and turn choke too full.when it starts it will probably quit turn choke to halfway and start again.should stay running. If that don,t work carb needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Engine runs then quits

You may have a small air leak at the carb, sometimes found at the bulb primer. This allows the engine to stop picking up fuel due to sucking air into the fuel line. If you re-prime, it will run again for a short period?

Engine won't start . Pour gas in cylinder it starts then quits.

hi lou. your carbeurator is gummed up. It will need to be removed, soaked in carb cleaner for three hours and then rebuilt using the correct kit.

if you are not familiar with how to do this i recommend that u have it done by a lawn mower pro

Ryobi 790r i have changed the gas line and the primer bulb . the primer will mash in 1 good time and then gets very hard to mash in . i fully choke it and it will crank but only for 3 seconds until it...

You cannot flood the engine by pushing the primer bulb too much, unless the hoses are hooked up backwards. The primer does not push gas to the carb, it sucks gas through the carb and returns it to the tank. Top barb on primer is the hose coming from the return side of the carb and the bottom fitting is the hose going to the return fitting on the tank. Look inside tank, it is the one without the filter on it, just a flange with a hole in the center.

If you can see gas and air bubbles moving through the primer and into the tank the hoses are on correctly. If you see bubbles going in the correct direction and then reversing when you remove your finger from the bulb, then the check valves in the primer may be bad. Replace primer.

When you say the primer "gets hard to mash", do you mean it is hard to push in or is it very slow to refill and return to the home position? If it is hard to push in and the bulb is full of gas and the hoses are on correctly then there must be a plug in the line going to the tank or the vent in the gas cap is not working. If it does not return, then it is most likely a plugged filter, plugged line from the tank to the carb, plugged screen inside the carb or a stuck needle valve. The primer is creating a slight vacuum to pull the gas through the carb, which is what the carb does when the engine is running. If there is a full or partial restiction on the supply circuit neither the primer nor the carb can pull enough gas for the engine to run. May need to disassemble carb and clean out any varnish, gunk or plugged ports/jets. Use spray carb cleaner. May want to think about a diaphagm and gasket kit if you do it yourself. If you do not feel confident in taking apart the carb, then take to a repair shop.
