After you setup the wireless router like for the internet connection and other settings including the wireless settings of it, you can go to your laptop make sure that your laptop has a wireless card/adapter that is use to connect to wireless network which your router will be broadcasting , then just select the wireless name of it for linksys router the default wireless name or SSID is linksys..

The manual should also cover the wireless steps. You need a wireless adapter on the laptop, directly out from the box the router should work, just plug and play, but it is unsecured meaning anyone can use your wireless network.

the wireless router is connected with a cord to the cable box. make sure you plug it into the right spot behind the wireless router.

Well you will have to setup the router to run on ethernet, perform a mac clone for your cable modem then setup the wireless.

    Step 1:
Access the router’s web-based setup page. For instructions, click here.

NOTE: If you are using Mac to access the router’s web-based setup page, click here.

    Step 2:
When the router’s web-based setup page appears, click the drop-down arrow under the Internet Connection Type field and select Automatic Configuration - DHCP.

    Step 3: Save settings

    Step 4:
    Click MAC Address Clone.

    Step 5:
Select Enable and click Clone Your PC’s MAC.

    Step 6: Hit save settings.

you may perform a power cycle to make sure the modem will sync with the router.

    the wireless part.

go back to the setup page, then go to the "wireless tab", change your wireless network name or the SSID to any name you wanna call your network, set your channel to 11 then hit save settings.

after saving locate the subtab that says wireless security, enable it using WPA personal, set the algorithm to TKIP then make up a password and type it to the space for Pre Shared Key / passphrase, then hit save settings.

to set the connection to your computer remove the ethernet connection and then enable the wireless adapter in your computer, if you have XP or Vista, it will say that it has found a wireless network in range, just click on the message and it will ask you for the security key once you try to connect to the network you created. and thats it, if you have other questions just let us know.

oh yeah, power cycling by the way is removing the power from the modem and the router, then power up the modemr FIRST, wait for it to be stable (or the online light solid) then power the router up next.

if you have IBM or lenovo, the wireless switch is usually infront of the laptop, it will have a wireless antenna icon right on top of the wireless TOGGLE switch. if you have dell, press FN and F2 on your keyboard to ruen it on, for HP compaq and toshiba, you may look for the wireless button on the upper part of the keyboard on the both side of the machine. acer usually has it ont he left side of the keyboard, or beside tje speakers. this is if you have a laptop

Hi do you know how I can connect my lap top to the internet wireless with my linksys wireless router ? the lap top asks for an access code and I do not know what it is or how to find it do you know how to...

The access code or password is the encryption key in your wireless router, without this key the wireless router won't allow the laptop/computer to connect to this wireless router.
The WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption key is in your router's wireless settings. Log into your router and got to the wireless settings, you will need to get the SSID and the encryption key. Then go to your computer/laptop's wireless card and configure it with the router's SSID and encryption key, so it will then connect to the wireless router and the Internet.

I purchased a D Link (Model # DIR 601) along with a Retail Plus USB Adapter. My router was set up so that I could bring it home and plug it in. I was not supposed to have any issues with it. My Lap top is...

check to see if your wireless connection is on on your laptop and set to work with your router - check to see if your laptop's wireless signal is b/g/n - if it's only an "n" - and your router is a b/g - then you will need to purchase an "n" class router...
normally, routers do not "just work without issues" when you bring it home and plug it in - it should have come with a setup disk or instruction guide - have you completed the steps to connect?

What is the Operating system on the laptop ?
If it is XP then in the bottom right hand corner you will find Wireless network connection ( looks like 1 computer monitor). Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is windows Vista, then in the bottom right hand corner you will find 2 computer monitor icon. Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is Windows 98/ME/2000 then use the adapter utility to connect to the wireless network.
For MAC you will see the AIRPORT icon at the top.

Check the wireless settings of the router first . Make sure that yopu have all the wireless settings of the router. If you are not sure about the settings, then open the router set up and check the settings.

1. check your wireless adapter TCP/IP settings if its set into "Obtain as IP address Automatically".
2. if the settings is set as Automatic and your not getting IP address then select "Use the following IP Address"
3. use IP address followed to your router address like if192.168.0.1 in router type 192.168.0.2 or192.168.0.3 just check the next address IP in your network.

Cannot install D-Link router

You may try typing admin on the username field. Just leave the password field empty.

Once you're in the setup page, click on WIRELESS tab which on the left side of the page. On the Wireless page, you will see the wireless settings set in the router. You may also enable the wireless security on that page if there is not security enabled yet.

Please check this for your reference http://support.dlink.com/Emulators/di524/h_wireless.html

Hope this helps!
