This could be a fairly serious issue and one you need to address. If the dishes smell musty and slightly pungent when left in overnight, this would indicate tat you may have a molding or mildew issue to deal with. This is created then during the final rinse cycle the remaining water in the lower trap unit is not completely flushed and may be holding some sentiment from a previous wash cycle. The item, probably a meat or bread item is stuck and due to the moisture it is retaining in the trap is now molding and this can lead to potential mold spreading throughout the core of the washer. Nothing to freak out about, but you should have the drain cleaned and make sure no sentiment is lingering in the trap. Let me know if this was helpful or if you require a further assistance.

wash it out (not running,of course)with some good anti-microbial cleaner and dry well. Then put in a new box of good old baking soda and leave the door open 1 inch over night.the next day, turn on the freezer and put a NEW box of B/S and that should do the trick.

There is a moldy smell....I have ran a load with no clothes and just bleach and it smelled ok for a week and now smells again

The odor that you are experiencing may be from the growth of mold. Inside the washer, some small pools of water may be left standing and is harboring mold spores. Even though you may operate the washer regularly, the mold spores are not being washed away.I have a couple of tips that might help to eliminate odor issues in your washing machine. First, and the most effective in my research is to, leave the lid, or door to the unit open. By leaving the door open, it promotes air circulation and evaporation of standing water. The reduction in odor, will occur quickly and dramatically.

My second tip is to run the washer empty for a quick rinse cycle. Add an entire cup of bleach at the start of the cycle. The bleach is effective at destroying organisms, such as mold and bacteria. However, running it once will not be completely effective. I suggest pouring another cup of bleach into the wash tub/basket, after the cycle has completed. This will leave bleach as the standing pool and should prevent the growth of mold or bacteria. However, if you do this, before doing a load of laundry you should run an empty rinse cycle again, to avoid damage to the clothes from the bleach left standing in the wash tub.

Smell in LG LDF8812ST

First, scrape your dishes clear of food before putting them in.  Rotten food makes smells.  Second, use a good brand of detergent in the recommended amount and use the heating cycle to heat the water up.
Most dish washers have a dryer heat cycle but this one apparently does not.  This may cause mold in the machine.
How to get rid of the smell:  With no dishes in the machine, add half a cup of bleach in the bottom of the unit and do a full wash cycle.  If the unit still has an odor, get some baking soda...about a half cup and put that in the bottom of the machine.  Close the door and leave overnight.  Then, run the machine through one wet cycle...say a wash cycle and then it should stop smelling.
Hint:  When leaving dishes in the machine between uses, leave the door ajar...do not close tightly.

Washing Machine develops moldy smell

Let's put the $1,000.000 problem right on the doorstep where it belongs!

We should not have to jump through hoops just do do laundry for crying out loud!

Since when do we allow ourselves to become victims like this? This is outrageous and manufacturers are profiting while we struggle with these seriously flawed product designs.

So, contact your manufacturer and members of Congress and the Better Business Bureau and DO some major consumer complaining and then try the following as recommended by our local appliance store which received this via fax.

No kidding; a fax sent to appliance stores by a manufacturer with the following instructions for customers to do regularly to manage mold in the machines.

*First, run a full complete wash cycle on hottest setting containing Bleach – * Note: full wash cycle takes 1 hour and 20 minutes on my machine.

*Next, run a full wash cycle on hottest setting using high efficiency laundry detergent * another 1 hour and 20 minutes

*Next, run a full wash cycle on hottest setting using Cascade automatic dish washing detergent *an ADDITIONAL 1 hour and 20 minutes

*Next, using Bleach water, wipe down entire interior of washing machine

*Next, using clean white cloth, wipe entire interior of washing machine dry

*Next, leave door ajar to air out machine

*Finally, I have now been informed that I cannot use fabric softener in the machine even though there is a fabric softener dispenser right in the machine because the new front loading machines cannot handle fabric softener!!

This is outrageous! Our poor $1,000.00 plus new washing machine cannot handle fabric softener.

Give me a break!
