Evrey,

Well, actually it not the lamp itself. Check the inverter ( what's the inverter?) It's a power supply were you plugged your power cord into. Ok! Now you know what the inverter look like. Next inspecting all the capacitors see if any has a stress marks on top of the caps, like a pluffed or a burst. If you find a busted caps...replaced those caps. If not sure...just replaced all the caps. Good lucks!

This morning the power went off briefly. When the power came back on, the monitor screen would not light up. All connections are good, and the power light at the bottom left of the monitor turns green...

Go check the backlight inverter lamp, replace if busted.
This can be found when you open the back of your lcd and manage to get access to it.
The backlight inverter lamp is located at the upper and lower part of the screen.
Go check also the inverter board, the one that suppply high voltage to inverter lamp, see if this ballast transformer are not burnt out.
The input voltage of the inverter board is 24vdc the output is 250v ac..The voltage input terminal of the inverter board usually creates a loose solder. Use a soldering iron to resolder them....

The power light on our model E172FPb Dell monitor is blinking. The screen does not turn on. What could be the problem

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

hi, extremely common problem for dell 17 in monitors. the capacitors and transistors on the power board internally have gone bad. to get repaired, it may cost 40-50 at a shop. i have repaired these in the past and they always come out well for at least 3 more years. may want to find another monitor though. if you would like steps on how to repair, let me know and i will find my old repair threads to give to you.

You need to open it up and inspect the componente inside, look at the fuse and the transistors in the inverter circuits first, also look for sign of over heating on the board, see pictures here for the guide: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

There are two possibilities, one is bad caps in the power supply, number two is shorted out transistors (P/N c5706/5707) in the inverter circuits. Please open it up and report back what you see so we can guide you further, see example fo failed monitors due to bad caps, lamps, etc: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

My Dell E172FPb flickers & has straight, thin

#1 Connect monitor to another system, make sure the issue is the Monitor, not the video card.
#2 Try a different VGA or DVI cable
If the issue is isolated to the monitor, it is cheaper to replace it than to repair it (Refurb 17" LCDs are $69 on Dell's Outlet

Dell E172FPb screen blinking

Hello,

If you've tested turning the monitor on without the VGA cable and it's still blinking I'd say there's a problem with one of the capacitors on the power supply card on your screen, when you're able to check it would you mind telling me the brand / reference of it ?
