Try swapping out the wires. just grab two wires off the old lady's car and give it a spin, if all is well put her wires back and buy you a new set. could be the coil tunneling. ohm meter may or may not show up a problem. stock dual fire coil should run 3 to 5 ohms. on the primary. if you have a single fire set up with two coils you could have damaged the electronics if you have them and the power transistor that drives the coil is shot.

Why does my 1998 1200 sportsters rear pipe dont

Hi Anonymous, and the usual suspects are:
1. Plugs in bad condition or partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition or leaking.
3. Spark plug gap to close or to wide.
4. Faulty ignition coil, module and or sensor.
5. Battery nearly discarged.
6. Damaged wire or loose connections at battery terminals,
ignition coil, or plug between ignition sensor and module.
7. Intermittent short circuit due to damaged wire insulation.
Good luck

2005 Harley Davidson 1200 Custom Sportster Stalls at Lights and Stop Signs

4700 not a lot of miles. This motorcycle needs to run. It will be rough until you can get the carb cleaned. I would keep doing what you have been doing for a while. After a couple hundred miles if it doesn't improve, you might want to consider having the Harley shop give it a good tune up. Check the plugs ...

The spark plug is only firing on the rear cylinder, I have replaced both plugs, both plug wires, and coil. all parts came from HD dealership and all parts are OEM replacement parts and still only fires on...

Swap the spark plug wires and see it the moves from the front cylinder to the rear cylinder. Your Sportster should have what is known as a "dual fire" ignition system. This means that both spark plugs fire every time the piston comes to top dead center whether the cylinder is on the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke. This causes what is known as a "wasted spark", the spark plug fires on the exhaust stroke. I don't have any experience with bikes made after year model 2000. Most of these bikes are equipped with electronic engine controls that I don't care to learn about. I work on bikes made in 1999 or earlier. I feel pretty confident that Harley still uses the "dual fire" ignition but I'm not sure if they have any other sensors on the bike that would cause the problem you have. Try what I suggested and it may give you a clue as to the problem. Other than that, I have no other suggestions. Sorry I couldn't do more.

Good luck

2004 1200 xl sportster after engine has been running for awhile, it will miss alot give it the gas and nothing happens then all at once will run right for alittle while and than start missing again

Sounds like an ignition problem. I don't have a lot experience with the newer bikes as I specialize in the older ones, but it seems to me that Harley went to two coils on the Sportster, one for each cylinder or a "two in one" type coil. I'd check the coil and the spark plug wires. If you can tell which cylinder is cutting out on you, test that coil and the spark plug wire. The primary resistance should be 3-4 ohms across the small terminals of the coil.

Also, if the spark plugs you are running have the screw on ends on them, make sure they are tight.

Good Luck

2006 HD Sportster 1200XL rear cylinder not working

Sounds like an ignition problem. Probably a fowled or damaged spark plug or lose or damaged spark plug lead. Try new spark plugs, I only recommend NGK and you may need to fit hotter plugs for cold weather riding. Plugs are cheap and thats the best place to start.
