Sounds like you have an overtemp switch that is tripping and shutting your motor off. Many motors use what they call a 'snap switch" ( looks like a small disk with two wires on it ) to sense motor temp and if that trips, then it will temporarily disable power to the motor until it cools down enough to allow power to be reapplied. If you are sure everything is clean and your motor can rotate freely ( if there is a restriction that limits motor rotation, more current is drawn to drive the motor thru that restriction ..which in turn will cause excessive heat build up and the temp switch to trip) ... Hope that helps!

Some of these units have had trouble with the motors and this is what causes them to shut off. NuTone has been pretty good about replacing them under warranty. 1-888-336-6151.

Nutone Model CV353; runs for several minutes and then shuts off. After a couple of hours I can turn on again, but again only last a couple of minutes. Possible relay problem?

Check the filter. If it's dirty, thoroughly rinse it in cool water, then let it thoroughly dry before using. If you don't have an extra filter to use during this time, you should get one.
It could also be a clogged hose or pipe. These would cause the motor to overheat, thus shutting off. Check hose at end for suction. If weak or nonexistent, detach hose and try dropping a penny or dime, or marble, down the hose. If it comes out the end, the hose is probably clear. If this is the case, you need to check other outlets.

Nutone central vac shuts down after a few minutes of use

this is a very common problem.

If the unit is less than 5 years old and you have your bill of sale it will be covered by warranty. Although one of my customers said that there is a recall on the motor in this unit. That is totally unverified. However, if it is still under warranty, contacting broan/nutone will give you the closest warranty depot, or they may just deal with you directly.

I do recommend that both the motor and the PC board inside be changed.

Good luck,
Mark

I have the Nutone 353 central vacuum. The last few times we have used it motor has shut down and then will come back up after an hour or so. Re-set switch does not seem to matter

I would try emptying it out and also cleaning any filters you have access to at the same time. It is usually a sensor for heat that stops the machine and if it is getting full or has plugged filters it will get hot fast cool down and then it will do it all again . Hope this helps you. Good luck

Vx550 issues

Heven't fixed it yet, but I've pulled the motor to see what the specific issue is. As soon as I have the problem isolated and a solution, if possible, I'll post it here. I will have to contact Nutone Monday and see what they will do. If nothing, I'll sort it myself.

VX3000c Keeps shutting down after a few minutes of use

it has a thermal fuse in the motor compartment. it is indicating a over heated motor. check the exhaust for clogs or feel the motor it should be warm but not hot to the touch
if its just warm, the thermal is lying to you and needs to be replaced

Nutone central vac vx550

It's a known problem. I bought my vx550 last year in July and it stopped working this year in May. On for 5 minutes, shut down, can't run for a few hours, runs for another five minutes, etc. I called the Nutone customer service department and they exchanged the unit for a new one, cross shipped, via UPS. Mine was still under warranty though. It has to do with some defective thermostat or controller in the electronics of the vacuum.

Good luck

Power Unit VX475 Stops

Checked and found that motor is definitely overheating for unknown reason. Since power unit is still under warranty, solution was to contact local service company for NuTone power unit and have them come out and fix/replace it free of charge.
