No fax machine holds your address. You can enter your fax number which is called the csi (caller station ID) and your Name (ie company name) called your TSi (transmitting station ID). thats all. Some machines will let you have multiple TSI's for different departments. I have never in 25 years on working on faxes ever heard of one holding an address!. The maximum amount of digits you can enter ranges from 15 to 30depended on make and model.

Most newer fax machine seem to short line 1 and 2 together and this will cause a VOIP modem "called an eMTA" to go off hook. Your fax machine should have come with a phone jumper that has only a single line "2 wires inside it", you should be able to use that jumper to attach your fax machine to your house phone wiring. If you use a standard phone line jumper it has both lines "4 wires" and can cause your eMTA modem to go off hook which could be why it was disconnected.

You need to set your phone to pick up later than the fax machine. set it to pick up on the 4th or 5th ring, set the fax to pick up at 2 or 3. Better yet, get a distintive ring # set up by your phone co. then the fax will only recognize that ring.

We can send a fax but we can not receive a fax

Chances are that your fax machine is setup to either not answer the phone at all, or set to answer on a special multi-ring setting (which is available with some fax machines). Go into your fax machine settings and make sure
1-That it is set to answer the line and take faxes
and
2-That is recognizes regular telephone ring tones and isn't set to anything special either by accident or design.

What do I buy to use 2line phone and separate fax?

You can buy a 2 line phone, but to use the fax/dsl line for voice, you will also need a line sharing device.

"The stick" is a good brand....

All it does is recognize if an incoming call is a fax or a voice call. If fax it would go to a fax port on the stick. If voice, it comes out the voice port which you can call on.

The same rules apply to this line....if something is using it, the next call will get busy......But now you could have the phone company "Hunt" your line 1 to line 2 (fax/dsl) if line 1 is busy.......hence...2 incoming lines....

You can set your fax machine to answer in 1-15 rings or you can set it to MANUAL so that to get a fax you will have to press START.

No fax machine can actually tell the diference between a phone call or a fax coming.in.

There are devices called fax/phone switches, but they are unreliable.

Fax setup

I set my fax on auto answer with a short number of rings. My answering machine is set up to ring more. If I am receiving a fax it picks it up; if not, the answering machine comes on after the designated number of rings. Thus far this has worked for me. Good luck.

Most fax machines do not operate well on digital lines.
Contact your provider and see what fixes they have for your specific fax machine.
Most fax machines still require an analogue line.

Phone line and fax line

If you actually have a 2 line setup with 2 #'s each with it's own separate line, it's wired backwards. Otherwise (distinctive ring, etc) the machine has to be capable of and set-up to recognize which ring pattern is a fax call.
Also, you have to enable auto-answer on the fax machine.
