HP Color LaserJet 1600 Printer turns paper grey

I bought this printer new and shortly after I purchased it, every page that I print turns a light grey. When I use cardstock, the printer makes the paper like like a sheet of marble. I have changed tones, but with the same results. I have contacted HP, but they said that they have never had this problem reported and told me to take it to an HP repair shop. I take it in a HP authorized printer repair shop, but they could not find any answers to the problem.

I have the EXACT SAME problem with the same printer. I tried printing just white to "Clean" the rollers but it doesn't work. All my colored sheets look gray!!!!

  • Anonymous Jan 06, 2009

Same problem, -I've had the printer for a few cartridges worth of ink, maybe a year or so. The grey is not too noticeable now, wondering if it will get worse over time?

  • krackerjack Jan 10, 2009

It doesn't make any difference if I use INKJET paper or LASER paper. It still leaves a gray cast to the paper.

  • Anonymous Apr 14, 2009

HP color laserjet 2600 does the exact same thing, any paper other than copy paper turns gray, no good paper will go un-grayed.

  • pozcanon Apr 19, 2009

I have the same problem, I called HP and argued with them. All they did was bounce me from call center to call center and still no solution!!!
What a bad investment... I'm never buying a printer from these bozo's again!

It seems to help it I leave printer on all the time. It randomly starts recalibrating. I imagine the more you leave it on the more it does this. I had the grey prob for a while, but it went away with the next toner. This might be solution, but I'm not sure.

Am confused,i want to buy a colour laserjet printer and left with only two options which one should i buy btn hp1600 and cp1525

hiii
Its depends on your printing needs.Printing quality almost same these two printers. If u buy hp 1600 u will get more pages than cp 1525.But u should think about the toner cost. Check your local market price for each toners. Here i will give u the toner model numbers for ur required printers.

hp 1600 - q6000- black,q6001,q6002,q6003 each three colours.- Page yield 2500 pages for black ,2000 pages each colours.

hp cp1525- ce-320a(128a),ce321,ce322,ce323- Page yield -2000 pages for black,1300 each colour pages.

So I am sure hp 1600 toner very costly than 1525 toner. If u dont have huge volume printing better i suggest u buy cp 1525 model. Also this model offering wirless printing .
U can refill this toners lowest cost and getting good results.
sooooooo cheeeeeeers up........select your new printer. best wishes..........

Whatever I print looks "dirty",

If the cartridges are not HP brand, that may be the problem.

Try to figure out exactly what color the "grey" background color is.
If it is truly grey, the black cartridge might be the problem.

You can also try a different type of paper.
Some paper may respond to the printing process differently than others.

If you find that the background is a red, the scanner will have to be removed and cleaned.
These models have a tendency to collect red (magenta) toner on the scanner assembly lenses.

Why the color fade towards the edge?

turn on/off, unplug, wait a minute, plug back in, should reset.
take all paper out. check to see if any paper pieces is jammed in the rollers
go to application folder for your computer, dbl click icon for make of printer for settings to ensure everything is order.
lastly, check hp's printer trouble shooting web site for more information. or the printer head might had a fleck of dirt on it, run a print test
good luck.

Yellow cartridge says low after printing 200 pages for hp laserjet 1600

200 is not much, but possible if you print a lot of pictures at paper size. Normally when a HP 1600 starts notifying about low toner, you still have about 20 %.

Smudge mark along entire right side of every page.

HP 1600 is quite a decent little printer, so you shouldn't be dissapointed - if it's working properly, which clearly it's not in this case.

It seems that you have 2 problems here.

Firstly it shouldn't click loudly, so you need to be talking to whoever you bought the printer from.

The smudging - is probably a dirty fuser.
There are laser printer cleaning sheets, that will work quite well, but ideally it needs a little bit of dismantling to get at the fuser to clean the two fuser rollers.

I've seen lots of these with dirty fusers, and a clean with IPA does the trick.

Printing quality off? 2550 HP laser jet?

When installing new cartridges, it's always a great idea to perform a cleaning and recalibration of the machine. Below are the steps needed to do just such a task. You may want to print these out or save them somewhere for future reference as well. They are directly from the HP website.
Please rate the tip accordingly and thanks for using Fixya.com.

  3. Remove any paper that may be in tray 1.
  4. Remove the page that printed and load it face down into tray 1.
  5. At the computer, press Clean .
Calibrating the printer There are two methods of calibrating the printer manual: at the printer or from the Toolbox on the computer. From the printer Turn the printer off and then on again. From the HP Color LaserJet 1500 or 2500 Toolbox on the computer

Printing on card

160gm is too thick for the printer. Printing a couple of sheets should be okay, but more than that and you will damage the cartridges hence the "grey" haze. Check your printer specs -- max. gm on these printers is probably 105gsm.
