Hitachi 50V500 Red Spot

Bill,

Thanks again, but I was dealing with a local Authorized Hitachi Service Center they actually gave me the co. name and number. I called Hitachi again today regarding the problem and they still denied me. Told me my tv was too old and they are no longer replacing these at n/c. There is a guy online who has contacted a law firm in Texas who is handling a class action lawsuit against Hitachi regarding this issue. He gave the firm number so I called it today after being denied for a 4th time and they took my documentation along with other upset Hitachi tv owners who have also been denied. Not sure what else to do. I wouldn't even pursue it if I didn't think I am being treated unfairly along with several other Hitachi TV owners. I know what you say is true that they are still sending these out @ n/c to some Hitachi TV owners because a guy called me just last Thursday night giving me his info. because they agreed to send his service tech one @ n/c. Again, thanks for everything. If you have any more info. that you think would be helpful that would be appreciated. But honestly, Hitachi has my name, number, complaint(s) etc... and they continually deny me! They always say "your tv is too old" and/or "because I have no prior service on the tv they can't help me". Pretty lame excuses since they are still helping other people out. I mean come on all these tv's are approx. 4 years old they were mfg. in 2003/2004 of course they are 4 years old.

I also had 'the red spot problem' on my Hitachi 50V500. After digging around online, and getting some advice, I found a local 'authorized service center' for Hitachi and explained my problem. They took my info, including the serial number of my set and advised I call Hitachi at 800-654-7013.

The customer service person asked, "why did they have you call us". I explained the set problem, and said the TV repair company said that (and here is the key) "the set needed a new light engine, and sometimes Hitachi will send out a free replacement light engine to the TV repair company for these sets, and I wondered if that was possible in my case". Hitachi stressed that, indeed, these instances were reviewed on a case by case basis, and said "as a good will gesture" they would do that in this case.

I don't know what criteria Hitachi uses to determine if you are eligible, but I just piled on the humble charm, and it worked for me. Good luck to everyone else.

    1) Call an authorized Hitachi TV Repair service company first. (You can probably find a TV Repair company that understands the problem immediately and won't need to come out for diagnosis)

    2) Give the TV repair company the model & serial number of your set

    3) Call Hitachi as described above

    4) Be very very polite & grateful for all they can do to help you.

    5) Cross your fingers.

Your set needs a light engine replacement. Hitachi has an extended warranty for some of those. Check with a local authorized servicer to see if yours is eligible.

Red Spot 50V500

I would strongly suggest that you see what kind of a tech you have asking for the replacement... My industry is flooded with too many have-solder-gun will travel wany-to-be techs. And Hitachi is VERY particular who they do business with... If they even suspect that the tech who asked about the part is not capable of installing it properly that may be the problem....
I do know that that program is still ongoing. We did one as recently 7/20 and had no problems getting the part...
Don't really think Hitachi is trying to single you out - - so you might check that out..

Hitachi 50V500 Red Spot

Deb,
Unfortunately if you're not a technician Hitachi won't even consider sending you a LE for install... They will confirm your status and have you fill-out several documents.
As to the other part of the question, the service manual won't help - there is a procedure for memory re-initializing and after performing that you still have the spot then LE is called for.. But again, unless you're a tech with those letters behind your name Hitachi won't accept the results.
That said, we have done several of these and Hitachi has been exceptional to deal with pre and post install.
Hope this helps!

Contact a licensed, qualified tech, and go from there... Hitachi, based on the test parameters will likely replace the LE free of charge (PARTS & SHIPPING ONLY)... You'll have to pay the tech - but you're basically getting a brand new Tv inside..

If you've done an I2c reset then your problem is most likely the light engine. Actually the lcd panel inside the engine but the procedure is still the same - replacement of the LE..

50v500 "Red Cloud"

I called Hitachi and told them I had the red cloud on my tv. I was told to take it to an authorized Hitachi service center where they confirmed it was the light engine. I called Hitachi back with the info. and after confirming it with the service tech. said they would cover the part but not the labor. I was told labor would run about $250. Would cost more for in home service. I called Hitachi's customer relations department at 800-654-7013 and I got right to a real person that seemed very informed about the issue.

Red spot on LCD

We had the same problem and the infamous "red cloud" is a light engine defect and Hitachi knows about it. After calling Hitachis Customer Relations Department (not customer service) they referred us to a local Hitachi dealer that diagnosed the problem in less than a minute as a "light engine defect". We called Hitachi back and once they confirmed this with the dealer, they shipped the part to the dealer and the tech came out and installed it...looks like brand new TV. Here's the deal though, when you first call Hitachi, they will act like they've never heard of the problem until you have theTV looked at. They will pay for the part...$1500 but they will ask you to pay the install. Our install was $400...worth it to us on a $3600 TV. Be sure and call the Hitachi customer relations department and not regular customer service...you will get no where with them. The Customer Relations Department # is 800-654-7013. Good Luck!
