My lawn mower will start easily and continue running as long as the clutch brake is depressed but when I lift the clutch or try to engage the blades while the clutch is depressed the mower will stall.

This is a shot in the dark. I think you have a failed "operator presence safety switch". Rule this out by finding the switch and jumping it.

Your mower should run with no one in the seat IF THE PARKING BRAKE IS SET.

If the brake is released and no one is on it, it should shut off.

If you are on it and the brake is released you should be able to engage the blades (probably an electric clutch)

Purpose of this interlock is the shut the machine OFF should you fall off or jump off the machine. Do not disable this valuable safety feature.

Let me know what you find.

Blades won't engage on my toro ss 5000 zero turn mower

for any ride on machine that the blades don't engage id start at looking at occupancy seat switch , these are most times the culprits then if that's ok I move on to the actual engage switch and then on to clutch as last element

don't forget that past 2013 mfg machines operator must be in seat and weight over 80 lbs , the clutch pedal must be depressed and transmission not in reverse to engage the blades on a consumer grade lawn tractor (thank the CSB for that )

Scotts 1642h riding mower Ignition Switch, Seat Switch or Wiring Problem?

Will run with no one in seat if clutch is depressed but will not run with clutch depressed and blade engaged with no one in seat. Could be your pto safety switch is bad. Maybe battery new but not charged try charging with 2 amp charger overnight and see if that helps. Maybe diode in charging circuit bad.

I went to go mow the lawn for the first time this season. Tractor started right up. took the deck cleaned and greased it. Went to engage the p.t.o. for the mower and the tractor stalled. Can't figure...

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

The power sequence for engaging the blade deck is. Clutch brake pedal depressed, operator in seat, Enage selected and brake pedal released. When the blade enages the engine igniton kill wire is routed through the seat switch AND the PTO clutch. If either the PTO Clutch or the seat switch has a problem the engine dies. Same goes for the clutch brake pedal switch... if the clutch brake is not coming all the way up the engine will die.

If you respond with a model number (example LX2000) I can show via a manual where you need to troubleshoot using a meter.

Do a couple of good bounces on the seat, check the clutch brake pedal switch for clicks and then attempt to an engagement.

Also inspect the PTO clutch wires and connectors for corrosion.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

The mower starts but the blade switch won't conect yth1542xp

Husqvarna uses an electronic clutch to engage the mower deck. When the clutch works itself out of adjustment it will quit working. Sometimes it will blow the 20 fuse and the tractor will continue to run, but the blade won't engage. When you then shut off the tractor it won't crank again until you replace the fuse. When you attempt to engage the blades again, the fuse will blow again.

Follow this link for a detailed description of the adjustment process:

Riding mower dies when releasing brake

the seat switch is the problem. the switch itself could be bad, but usually theproblem is that the connector is just not plugged in all the way [by the way, trying to bypass the switch by inserting the wire doesn't work because there is a "switch" inside the connector to prevent you from doing just what you did]
