The lens might need some cleaning if dirty or it's defective and will need replacing. I would suggest to use a lens cleaner first and see if that helps.
The other possibility is that the lens did not get back to its original position and is not activating a switch to let the microprocessor knows that it needs to read the DVD/CD.

Have you tried a Disc cleaner yet. If that doesn't work try some cotton with rubbing alcohol or window cleaner and clean the laser lens. Only do the latter if it isn't under warranty as this will require you to open it up buy taking off the outer panel. Let me know if you get stuck or have any questions while doing this

Try running a disk cleaner through your system. or take the top off the device and take a cue tip and take some colone and gentley clean the lens by hand. than dry it with another q-tip. see if that does not solve your problem. usually a dirty lens will keep from reading any disk.

Marantz cd5001 stopped playing in mid-stream. Now inserting disc makes no laser clicking/noises, not reading. I have part with laser out, it's a sony laser attached to a metal plate SM213CCM then below...

Hi Robert,

Before you replace the optical lens try this first.
If you have necessary tools and test instruments, know safety precaution in basic troubleshooting try the steps below to solve your problem.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. - Sometimes because of dust the lens can't read any disc. Try clean the lens by soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this.
2.Replace the ribbon - Check the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch, damage. Once it has an open line then of course the lens can't read the disc. Also try to erase the contact by pencil eraser. If you've done the steps above and the symptoms still there then the next step requires you a little knowledge in soldering technique and reading the ohmmeter.
3.Check the motor - Check the motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.Good motor - reading should be fairly high and it will spin. Bad motor- reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin.
Hint : 50% of my repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.
If you confirmed that you have a defective motor then replace it with a new one. Before replacing the new motor you have to check the clearance of the disc holder with the old one. The clearance should be the same as the old because if not the lens will not read the disc if it is too far or too close.
If the above steps didn't cure the problem, high chance that your optical lens was faulty, click this for the replacement

If you can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the symptom.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

It is not reading and rotating cd

Hi,

Your no disc error can be a DIY like the following steps.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. - Sometimes because of dust the lens can't read any disc. Try clean the lens by soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this.
I've suspect that below is the caused of your problem since the disc didn't spin. You can try this if you have knowledge in electronics and have a tools and test instruments.
Ifyou already cleaned the lens, and confirmed that the ribbon is good as well as the motor then I've advice you to send it to repair shop because the next step should be done with an expert because it is quite technical diagnosing the fault between the pick-up lens and the main board.

Hope it may help you.
Have a nice day!

Error 08 / Disk Locked error

With help of Yamaha tech staff, I inserted a business card under disk "lid" in bottom left corner, slid card to right to release catch. With catch released, pushed disc in to insure in OK, closed lid cover, then slide card from lower right corner to left to re-catch. Read disc OK.

The disc changer isn't reading the discs, instead it will just keep changing discs.

Take the cover off. Look to see if the unit "clamps" on each disc and tries to read it. If it does you need a new laser. A new unit is usually more cost effective though. If your machine doesn't clamp or spin the disc the problem could be mechanical. 99% of the time the laser is at fault. Good Luck!
