I have a new bb 8830 world edition phone on a Vodafone GSM network. I have requested for the bb service to be activated. Which the service provder has. Unfortunately, the settings are not received by my BB and it continues to show only 'gprs' (in small letters) implying that the data services have nt been activated / received by my handset.

Looks like you just change your original sim card with other network sim card. You must unlock your blackberry first before you can using other network in your phone. What you need is blackberry 8830 unlock code from your original phone network sim card. You can get blackberry unlock code from network provider or buy from third party sites which have lower cost rather than network provider.

Need unlock code for a verizon bb 8830

Impossible to unlock a verizon BB 8830 (or any verizon devices that have a GSM slot). You are better off getting a true GSM BB device and unlock that device.

I would like to have unlock code for Blackberry World Edition 8830?

Depends who you are with.
If you're with Verizon, you have to call Verizon to get it unlocked. Just call Verizon International Technical Support at cb_transparent_l.gifus.gifspace.gifspace.gifarrow.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gif800-711-8300cb_transparent_r.gif.
Customer service will give you the 8 digit code, hang up and follow this procedure:
  • Settings Menu - Options
  • Selected Advanced Options - SIM Card
  • Type MEPD on the keyboard
  • Type MEP, then the ALT button, then 2
  • A prompt comes up "Enter Network MEP Code". Type in the unlock code, then pressed the track wheel.
  • Phone is now unlocked.

Sprint has the 8830 only in black and it is already unlocked by the carrier when it ships.
Also know you can't use the GSM portion of an 8830 in the US or Canada or Mexico. The reason is because the US/CA and Mexico use different bands than the radio provides. The US uses 850 and 1900 MHz. The rest of the world uses 900 and 1800 MHz Bands. Since your phone only has the latter, it has no capability to work in North America.

Or, you can go here and pay for a code:

Telus Blackberry 8830 World Edition with Rogers SIM?

Unfortunately, you can't use the current Storm model on Rogers. The Telus network is CDMA (Rogers is GSM), which means Telus' wireless products do not use SIM cards :-(
If it's any consolation, there is supposed to be a Blackberry Storm released soon that will use SIM cards and could be used on Rogers.
