Question about Toshiba Satellite M65 Notebook

FREEZES AND SKIPS

RECENTLY MY LAPTOP HAS BEEN FREEZING OR ?SKIPPING. MOST NOTABLE DURING PLAYBACK OF VIDEO BUT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. IT SEEMS THAT THE VIDEO AND AUDIO MOMENTARILY FREEZE AND UNFREEZES FREQUENTLY DURING PLAYBACK, BUT THIS ALSO HAPPENS DURING ALL APPLICATIONS-EVEN WHEN JUST MOVING THE MOUSE IT DOES IT. NOW THE KICKER IS THAT I FOUND OUT IF I APPLY SOME PRESSURE WITH MY HAND TO THE AREA TO THE RIGHT OF THE KEYPAD , THE PROBLEM STOPS UNTIL I RELEASE THE PRESSURE. I THOUGHT MAYBE THE HARD DRIVE WAS FREEZING UP OR SOMETHING,BUT THAT IS ON THE LEFT SIDE UNDER THE DVD. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS WHAT IS GOING BAD HERE? THANKS MITCH

Something you may wish to try is increasing the size of your Virtual Memory Paging File.  This is simple enough to do, and will work if your laptop freezes because it is deleting Virtual Memory.

Another thing you may want to do is set the computer to clear the Paging File when you shut it off.  This involves editing the registry, but I have done it myself and it did not harm my computer.

Increasing VM (virtual memory):
1) Go into Control Panel
2) If in Category View, choose Performance and Maintenance, then System.  If not in Category View, choose System.
3) Go to the Advanced tab.
4) Click on Settings under Performance
5) Choose the Advanced tab
4) Under Virtual Memory, click Change.
5) If you have multiple hard drives, you can increase the page file on all or one of them.  The Total System Page File is what matters. Either way, increase the page file like this:
If you play DVD movies on your laptop, you may require as much as 8 gigabytes of storage.  DVD's hold exactly that, so for smoothest play, make the page file a minimum of 8 gigabytes and a maximum of 10 gigabytes. The fields are measured in megabytes, and a gigabyte is 1024 megabytes.  So for a minimum of 8 gigabytes, enter 8192.  For the maximum, enter 10240. Click Set.
You need considerably less for YouTube and other internet movies, and for gaming.  Your page file only needs to be two to 4 gigabytes.  2048 megabytes is 2 gigabytes, so enter 2048 in the minimum size.  The maximum is going to be set at 4096 megabytes.  Click Set after entering that.

Those above are just my recommendations for size.  Feel free to adjust them based on your hard drive size.

Then click OK on all the menus to close them.  Your computer may need to be restarted.

To have the computer clear the VM at shutdown:
Go into Registry Editor- Start, Run, Regedit.
Navigate to this value, and click on it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

Several values (called Keys) will appear on the right.  You are looking for the one titled "ClearPageFileAtShutdown". Double-click on it.  Change it to a 1.

If it does not exist, you may create it (right-click on Memory Management on the folder view.  Navigate to new, then DWORD value).
Title it ClearPageFileAtShutdown . Then set the value to a 1.
Your computer will need to be restarted.

Hope that helps, jpc1994.

Sounds like sled motor [the motor that help to spin the disc inside] is faulty. This is purely a mechanical fault. Contact any service technician. The CD drive mechanism should be taken out from the device, for repair. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Samsung bd-c6900 xaa dvd player freezes on 3d prometheus movie in same spot at scene 20

Report the error to Samsung support. There is an ongoing problem with the firmware. Make sure you have updated to the most recent firmware version 1025.0 that was released this month. There are still unresolved problems with the new firmware release though. Many movies will fail to load and other will load and play but will skip/freeze during playback. This is related to the anti-piracy features on the Blu-Ray that the player can not properly handle.

When we use the DVR to record, during playback it skips, freezes and pauses continually. It has already been replace once and the new one does the same thing.

Hello my name is Mike Houston with the DISH Network customer service department. I want to apologize for the issue you have been experiencing and offer my support to help. It seems like there is a possible grounding issue with your satellite which could cause the hard rive to become corrupted and have the issues you have explained. It is very uncommon for multiple receivers to have the same problem without something else causing it.

Xbox 360 Freezing during netflix and dvd playback

If you are using a HDMI connection, often the connection will be lost between your xbox and your tv. In my case I simply change to another channel or the other HDMI channel and then back and the secure HDMI connection will be restored.

Rented videos are freezing temporarily during playback

If the rented DVD is too scratched it will cause the DVD player to pause while it tries and find the next available playable area on the disc. This may cause the player to skip to another part of the movie. Try wiping the disc with a damp cloth from the centre towards the outer rim and dry the same way. Fingerprints ect. also cause problems. If the scratches are circular the player will have a hard time trying to play the disc. If the scratches are straight and small it shouldn't cause too much problems.

Windows Media center recorded TV playback

Some possible causes can be system heat causing the video card to freeze. Sometimes it can also be related to the video driver or MPEG2 decoder. Make sure to use the right decoder and filter for the video playback.
