Okay..so i have my own geek squad dud who sets up my coputer..anyways he's at work..i know for sure everything is setup correctly..so the thing prints pics. from my comp. but doesn't scan anything...i don't even see the light going...((I HAVE TRIED PRESSING THE SCAN BUTTON!!))
Hello all I had the same problem. Printer printed fine and can make copies but scanning didn't work. I had lost the cd so was dl-ing from canon site. Turns out you have to download a diff program for scanning feature to work. You need the one that says MP Navigator EX ( for me it was MP Navigator EX Ver. 1.06 vista-32 bit). Hope that helps!

first off, What printer do you have? How are you connecting, USB, network (wired or wireless). I have been answering questions on this board for years and it still amazes me how people expect to get an answer without providing any relevant details on their problem. As for geek squad, flip a coin, you might get someone who knows what they ar talking about, you may wind up talking to the home theatre guy, who is not going to admit he knows nothing about printers. I have 15+ years as an HP and Lexmark certified technician and can help you if you give me some details.
Try restarting it (turn it off and back on), if that does not help. Try unplugging the power cord and the USB wire from the computer, then press some buttons on the printer, wait for up to 45 seconds and then plug it back in (USB and Power Cord), then try it again. If that does not help, Geek Squad is your friend to resolve it.
Try downloading the printer driver and then install it.
You can download the printer drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB
support/download page. Make sure you select your model printer and the XP or
Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click on
this link to download the drivers: - http://welcome.hp.com/country/au/en/cs/support.html
Open the top where you exchange the cartridges, then check to see that those little cogs keeping the paper in place are'nt oily or jammed, If worse comes to worse, take it to a curcuit city or a geek squad.
If you have install HP s/w photosmart essential, you can scan material into coputer by selecting the get image function then select from scanner. A window will pop up. In which you can change the scanner parameter setup or accept the pre-scan quality and do the scan right away. Another method is in printer and fax folder, you can find the icon for scanner is located here too. Just click on the icon for scanner then you can get the scan result too. Hope this can help you.
there is a anti virus software that comes with the Vista (I hate Viatsa) and it is blocking the communication of the printer to the computer. I had to have Geek Squad come and they were the only ones that could figure that out. They removed the anti virus software and then it worked fine. I hope that helps you. I am sure at this point you either figured it out or bought a new printer.
