Question about Philips 51PW9303 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Wondering if you got my response yesterday.

I was asked if there was a sparking sound or smell.
No sparking or smell. The chirp is like a cricket and there is no blinking light. The only light was on the pwr button.
The chirp was 17 chirps for 10 seconds if that helps.

The pictures on the tips and tricks site don't come up, like no longer attached. Can you describe the setup for the Phillips televeison? The things you said to move and disconnect aren't apparent in the phillips set.

I have no pic or sound except a chirping noise , sounds like a cricket , LOL , timer light stays red , there was a odor , like a burnt smell

Hello. The chirping probably indicates a shorted transistor or diode, and the burnt smell usually indicates a blown capacitor or a burnt resistor, or multiple damaged parts. I would have to see the TV to be of any further assistance. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Good luck.

TV MAKING A CHERPING OR CRICKET SOUND AFTER IT IS TURNED ON

Two main common failures for these sets is the convergence amps and the flyback transformer (which is rather expensive). Both can make the set "chirp".

Chirping means the power supply is being loaded down by a short in most cases, likely a bad convergance IC

The chirping is an indication that the power supply is having difficulty starting up. This could be a problem with the power supply itself or a problem further down that is loading the supply. For a set this size, I'd invest in a detailed repair estimate. Report the results here and we can walk you through the actual repair.

Same Deal-Cricket beeping sound when plugged, Dead TV

The chirping sound you hear is normally the regulator circit trying to start up. It needs a signal returning from the high voltage transformer to turn it on. The reason the regulator cicuit is not working varies: The horizontal output is shorted, usually caused by a bad transformer in this model. The focus block goes out in this model quite a bit. The secondary of the power supply may have a missing voltage. I have found that there is no horizontal pulse coming from the drive circuits. Sometimes the regulator circuit itself has an issue. Either way, there are so many problems that can cause the regulator to chirp, diagnostics may be tricky.
