Hitachi Class Action Lawsuit

Can you go in and post on this forum and let other Hitachi TV owners know about the Class Action Lawsuit against Hitachi regarding the defective optical light engine. They need to call the Law Firm in Dallas Texas, HORP & B, that you mentioned is handling the case and talk to Victor @ 1-877-308-7900. They are taking documentation and cases regarding this suit and people that feel like they have been treated unfairly wherein Hitachi denied sending them a new optical light engine @ n/c need to call and state their case.

    I have a yellow spot on my 60" Hitachi LCD rear projection now that it is out of warranty. Sounds like the light engine problem also 60vx915 Any solutions yet

    I have the Hitachi 50V500 which I purchased 3 1/2 years and for the last year I have a large red spot on the LCD TV and now will take 30 minutes before the screen will produce a picture. I called Hitachi and they stated I need a lamp. I paid $3500.00 that did not even last 4 years.

    Red cloud in the middle of the screen, called Hitachi any number of times, they refuse to admit that it was their problem. If you just look at the sheer volume of peole who have the same problem, it has to be Hitachi's problem, not everyone else's.

I have a Hitachi 50V710 with a yellow-greenish spot in the center of the screen. It appeared there about a year ago. I have been putting off getting it repaired because money has been pretty tight. And they told me that my warranty has expired. They also said that it would cost over a thousand dollars to fix the problem. I purchased the 50" TV 09/09/04 for a total of $3336.88 what a rip-off. Now the whole screen has a green tint and the yellow-greenish circle in the center looks brighter. I wonder if it is even worth getting it fixed? What will go wrong with it next? Its a Lemon.
I really regret not buying the 52" sharp that was setting next the piece of **** that got suckered into buying. I know I learned one thing out of this,
" I WILL NEVER BUY HITACHI BRAND PRODUCTS AGAIN! "

The cloud, blur, spot in the center of the screen is caused when the color filters (red being the closest to the lamp) get overheated, because the very small area air filter in front of the fan blower that cools the light engine down. The filter is small, and it gets clogged with dust, which causes no air circulation, which allows the filter to overheat, the coating on the filter creeps and clumps, causing the problem.

The fix: Get a redesigned light engine, with bigger filters, and 2 instead of one. Price $315 from pacparts.com, with a $50 core value when you return your old light engine with shipping prepaid by hitachi..... but....

I got the 1st replacement light engine, set it up.... blue driver does not go down to black levels most of the time... other times... beautiful image... ordered a second light engine... this one has a hue towards the green in all images and it cannot be adjusted, shows green patches on different areas of the screen, fan noise, and, step bars show artifacts.... grrrr. I am still waiting for pacparts to find a 3rd light engine.

Hitachi Mexico, where the light engines are refurbished, definitely dropped the ball.

You can also buy a brand new light engine, but you will pay over $1200 for it

About two years ago, I had a small red blur in the middle of the screen. That red blur is now all over my screen. I called Hitachi and they said that there's nothing they can do about it because it's almost 4 years old and the warranty has expired. I called a repair shop and they said that it may be a light engine problem and it will cost about $1300 to repair. Might as well get a new TV for that. I did some research and found out that this is a common problem and that you need to be persisting when calling Hitachi and speak to a supervisor. The supervisor said that if a repair person confirms that it's a light engine problem, that they will send the part FREE OF CHARGE (just gotta pay for labor). They will only send a replacement once.

You can now stop calling Hitachi to get assistance. If you feel the need to sue for a TV that is 4 years old you are ignorant. This is unncessaary. I feel that if this was a defect in the manfacturing that the part would have failed with in the first year and not 4 years after owning the product. Get A LIFE!!

    Ignorant is someone who believes in a perpetual consumption society where families are unable to get financially stable for having to continually replace expensive items that have been designed to break. People are trying to get a life albeit impossible when these large manufacturing companies, banks, governments design this reched society to hold us all back. I have zero respect for people who hold opinions congruent with yours...

THIS model has a history and a class action lawsuit connected to it.

THIS IS SO COMMON THERE ARE NOW SEVERAL CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS OVER IT---I suggest you get involved---the replacement engines are all rebuilt and supposed to "not have the same trouble".

Let me know if I can be of assistance.

Its called the OPEN TRAY ERROR: If your console is out of warranty, Microsoft will charge you $99 to fix it. Everyone I know who owns a 360 has this error. Please join (like) the page if you use Facebook so we can see how many of us have this problem. The page tells you how to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission. When enough people complain, a lawyer will be more likely to file a class action lawsuit against Microsoft on our behalf. It took a class action lawsuit to get Microsoft to compensate their customers for the red ring of death. They need to (and will) fix this error too.

I have a 60 inch lcd with the red cloud, bought the tv in 04 called hitachi about it and there sending my tv repair man the light engine no cost. Everyone just needs to call them again. thanks Jim

Have an extended warranty like me, well even though i did purchase one I still am pissed. I paid $3300 for this set 60v500a and like I suspect many the red cloud just crept up on them until it became a real nusiance. I called Hitachi first but they were unwilling to help at all and tried to tell me it was the bulb, thank god for the internet or I might of believed them (-$400 out of pocket because warranty doesn't cover bulbs). Went to the lawfirms website and sent an email to add me to the many names in the lawsuit hopefully will hear back from them. Was pissed to find out that the repair shop is going to replace the light engine with a refurbished part. Didn't buy a refurbished TV but get a refurbished part well will be keeping a close eye on any red clouds in the future considering I still have a year and a half left on the warranty and will be complaining of any problems. For all others I will be asking the repair man if this is a common problem to share with others. I hope the lawyers hold Hitachi responsible for this, got a lotta nerve selling defective junk to consumers but corporate greed knows no bounds i guess.

i talked to them today, apparantly they are only takeing cases with problems in the first year of ownership, but being a ligitiamate suit, it might help push hitachi to help us out, i am going to try to call back and use this info as leverage to get a new light engine. if i have any success ill let you know

Hello
This is usually not a repair a layman is able to do
as the ammount of plugs and wiring that go with it.
also the tubes have to be set up after installation .
The actual problem may be the red driver transistor or a cold solder joint.
I recommend a tec. to repair it.

Zenith 60'' LCD TV a blue screen is not sky blue it looks dark blue to black


Go to zenith.com, look under the service icon at the top and then you should see a listing for "Class Action Lawsuit/Settlement". If you follow that link, they'll have specifics listed for this suit that was brought against them (including tv model #s included in the suit). There was an agreement reached to fix/replace affected t.v.s, court date was in Feb. I believe, and just waiting now until they post information on how to proceed.
