More then likely you have a bad hard drive. Usually when a HD starts going bad it will give errors like unable to load whatever file. I would put in a new hard drive reinstall your operating system from the disks that came with your computer and then use a USB to SATA cable to copy the files pics or whatever off your old Hard Drive. If this is a fairly new computer you can probably get a new HD under warranty
First click safe mode with networking, there you can check any error with your machine and make the changes your want, don't worry you won't get clean graphics in safe mode. after you have finish the installation or might have visit the control panel to uninstall what ever application you might have installed. reboot the machine and it will restore your normal booting settings.

You didn't told us, what is the most recent updates you've done, i.e.: installing driver or software, or something like this.
Choose 'Last Known Good Configuration', if not worked, choose 'safe mode'
