Hello, thier are several ways to help speed up your system.

  • you can configure your start menu, and close any programs that are running unnessissarily.
  • you can run a checkdisk through you ms-dos prompt (just type "checkdisk /all" at the prompt and press enter)
  • check your ram, some times ram sticks can go bad or burn out. or just may need to secure them tighter.
  • also: their is a clean-up that can be done from time to time. in your computer folder: right click the drive you want to clean up and click the properties tab. thier should be a clean up button. also in the more options tab at the very top their are other system repair options such as defrag and scandisk. ect...
  • what speed is your processor? maby you could upgrade your proccessor to a higher speed alog with your ram. these are always good ways to improve your system. just not always inexpencive.
I hope these tips help, if you can think of any more specific inquieries to your problem, just ask.

Uninstall any programmes you no longer use, run a virus and spyware scan, as this alone may be the cause, if you have non installed go here:-
http://free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe

check you have atleast 1GB of hard drive space free as this can cause slow ups and look how much memory is installed as you may need to upgrade the amount of memory to work newer and more memory hungry applications

Extremely slow running

Slow computer If you have a virus program installed, it is most likely is running a scan on your hard disk. It can slow down your computer especially if you have a large hard drive. After scanning is completed then the computer will be faster.
To make your computer (hard disk) lean and mean, uninstall any programs you do not use.
Also you need to maintain your hard disk by running Disk Cleanup this will remove old temp files and old compressed files etc.
This will reduce the number of files the virus scanner has to scan. Plus running Defrag. this makes your files contiguous so the system can access files off the hard drive quicker because it does not work as hard.. Disk Cleanup and Defrag should be carried out at least once a month.
If you have 512Mb of RAM installed then installing more RAM will speed up your computer. After installing your graphics card, you may need to disable the built-in graphics card in the BIOS for the new graphics card to work properly.

First thing I would do is take the desktop outside and clean it out with two cans of compressed air.

HEAT can really slow a machine down. Let me know if that makes a difference (good to do either way) and we'll go from there.

Runs slow on video downloads

Hello Sir,

downloading speed depends on internet connection not on PC specification.

If your transfer is low then downloading will also be low.

Take note that source from which you are downloading also must have reliable connection.

cheers,

Processor is extremely SLOW

Processors are what they are. They run at the speed that is selected. In your bios you can change the automatic settings and speed it up or slow it down but if you've done nothing to change this then it should be the same speed as it was when you bought the computer. I will say that if you're running XP then your computer probably has slowed down considerably since it was new. As they add more and more service packs and security updates windows seems to bog down more and more. Also as you install programs on your computer, they all think that they are the most important software on your computer and should start automatically every time windows starts. If you do nothing to stop them then you have more and more programs running at windows startup using up more and more computer resources. If you're adept at computers then you can fix this by clicking on run and typing "msconfig" and disabling some of these programs under the "startup" tab. BE WARE!! Some of these programs are needed and you can mess your computer up bad if you disable a bunch of stuff you're not suppose to.

I am having problem with my hard drive.

Install Spybot Search and Destroy update it and run a scan, then install AVG Free update it and scan, this should remove the spyware and or viruses that are slowing down you connection. Also install CCleaner and run this utility first use the Cleaner component, first tab in the application, analyse and once completed click run cleaner. Then use the Registry Cleaner part of the program scan for issues then fix selected issues (ALL) it will say its deleting some registries, this is good, its deleted old, unused or virus/spyware registry.

This should make ur internet connection go back to normal and speed up your computer as well, to speed up your computer even more defragment the hard drives.
