Hello,
The first thing to establish, is the problem with the printer on the USB controller on you're laptop/computer. Have you got any other USB devices that are functioning on you're laptop/computer?
As regards to getting your printer working on a ethernet port follow the following instructions.
1. Connect the printer into the back of you're router, using a ethernet cable.
2. Run the installation disk for you're printer, and when promoted select the "network installation" option. If you do not have the disk you can go to the following address:
http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/support-drivers.html
and type in the make and model to download the latest software/driver installation package.
3. You should just be able to follow the wizard on wither of the installation methods and complete the pritner setup.
