Most of the time this is the belts being to loose. You would need to get the exact belts to replace them with. Sometimes you can have similar problems with the switches that detect when a tape is inserted into the deck. Those switches are at the top of the tape mech and the top of the tape would depress the switches. They detect when a tape is inserted and if it is a recordable tape. Those switches sometimes need to be cleaned, but it is not an easy job. The belts are not easy to replace as well.
It is very rare for the motor to be bad, the belts and the switches are always the most likely problems.
You can always take the top off the unit and look to see if the belts are slipping and not turning the flywheels when you put a tape in and press play. If you hear the motor running and the belts are not turning, you need new belts. I can help you with the proper part numbers for the belts and give you a diagram of how the belts go around the flywheels if my solution is accepted. I repair these and many other types of audio equipment for a living and can offer you all the help you need.
What are the diameters of the two belts?
Good day,
I recently bought a second hand Technics HiFi component set.
The 2 challenges I have are:
1. The CD player does not recognize any CDs, even new original ones. Do you have any suggestions?
2. When I insert a new cassette tape, and press play, the play speed is way to fast and sounds akin to chipmunks, almost like when one used to make a recording from one cassette to another, at high speed. The player rolls, but the sound appears faster so one cannot make out anything decent. What could you advise?
Thank you in advance,
Eugene,
Namibia
By the way, does anyone have a user/service manual for this HiFi. Technics Cassette Deck RS CH730 and Stereo Amp SE Ch530, as well as the accompanying CD player.
Thanks in advance,
Eugene

Sounds like either something is wrong with the control circuit, the motor, or the speed sensors.
Look at these images of the turntable and platter and then check your
turntables to see if the parts indicated by the red arrows are damaged.
If not, I'm guessing there's something wrong with the speed control
circuit. Things like that are kinda hard to diagnose without
measurements though. It's rare that these things happen, but they can
be pretty costly to fix.
thanks
good luck
The most common cause of this is the belt having slipped off of the motor or gears instide the unit. As the belts age, they tend to get a bit stretched and don't rebound as well as new ones. This unit uses 2 or 3 belts that should be generally available for about $2 each. In order to change these belts the mechanism will need to be removed from the unit. If you haven't done this in the past, it could be a bit tricky. Figure on a total repair cost of about $75 if you were to bring this to a shop.
