Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

1 Answer

Updating....forever Hello, I have a windows Vista vostro 1000 which has been updating itself for the last few days without making any progress. No matter what I do to try to stop it (in a last ditch effort I removed the hard drive) it keeps reverting back to the update page. I would like to reboot it, but cant seem to find a way to do this. (on another computer I have there is a special button you can press with a pen...) but no such luck here.  All suggestions are welcome!!! Heather

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Have you tried updating the Graphics drivers? Some driver issues have been reported with Windows Vista and 7 coming out of resume and most are fixed by updating to the latest drivers?

Configuring updates takes forever

The updating time depends upon the size of the update files and these can be very large, also your Internet connection speed. The download site may provide the download progress ie remaining download time, the amount of data left to download and maybe the download speed.

Fuzzy screen

There are a few things to consider, and your input has validated this...

If you see this on the laptop and an external monitor, it's not your display screen on the laptop. It sounds like your graphics card.

If your system seems to work for a few minutes, but then fails after a while, it sounds like you might have a heat issue where either the cpu or the video card isn't able to disburse heat well enough, so it corrupts your system, regardless of how you're viewing it.

See if you can use a nozzle attachment from your Vac and **** out the crud, get a can of compressed air and see if you can blow out the vents around the fan and laptop, and then try the Vac again.

I've seen laptops from owners that have "cake" in their vents.

Lastly, consider updating your bios. Go to Dell and put in your service tag and get the updated bios for your machine. Sometimes follow-up versions of bios releases have enhancements to laptop cooling. Dell is notorious for coming out with cooling fixes AFTER the product is released.

Since downloading updating windows vista service pack dep wont let me connect to internet, how do i fix this

You can restore the windows to an earlier time, if you have a backup. Sometimes it helps just to remove the updated programs. I think that the preferable option is always to restore the computer to the last good known version (about a day before you updated the windows).

I know that updating the system sound like a good idea, but usually with windows vista it's not... I would recommend to stop updating and install a different windows if you can (windows 7 is pretty good)

My cd/dvd is making a clicking noise when i listen to it

The clicking noise is most common problem and almost many of the cd drives. the quickest resolution is to upgrade the firmware of the drive. i see you are using 1525 laptop. To upgrade the firmware click here. If this doesnot resolve the problem there is nothing else you can do. its a mechnical problem. Besides upgrading the firm ware the only solution is to replace the drive. Installation Instructions Windows based firmware flash update for HLDS GSA-T21N 12.7 tray IDE DVD+/-RW:- 1. Download and unzip the GSA-T21N_A1R1.zip into your desktop. 2. In ?GSA-T21N_A1R1? folder, please search for the ?Windows? folder. 3. In ?Windows? folder, please make sure you have the administrator right, and double click on ?GSAT21NA1R1.exe? 4. The firmware of the drive will be updated to a newer version. The target drive should be HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-T21N. 5. Please close other applications before updating and click on the ?UPDATE? button. 6. Now updating in progress. It takes a few minutes. Don?t turn off the PC. 7. Updating was completed successfully. Please reboot the PC and click on the ?REBOOT? button. DOS based firmware flash update for HLDS GSA-T21N 12.7 tray IDE DVD+/-RW:- 1. Unzip the GSA-T21N_A1R1.zip into your bootable USB key. 2. In ?DOS? folder, just type ?DOSA1R1.BAT? and answer ?y? if you want to download the firmware. 3. Now updating in progress. It takes a few minutes. 4. FW Update Completed. If this was helpful information. please rate my solution Very High.

DELL Vostro 1500 causing many problems...

For using xp you must have the correct drivers. These should be available for download from the Dell support website. You may also find updating windows xp will help you may be using service pack one, so make sure all updates are done.

If you have to load drivers you should load the chipset first followed by the graphics then the sound. Check on your hardware list under system in control panel that there are no conflicts.

I hope this is helpful please rate the assistance given.
