Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

1 Answer

Updating....forever Hello, I have a windows Vista vostro 1000 which has been updating itself for the last few days without making any progress. No matter what I do to try to stop it (in a last ditch effort I removed the hard drive) it keeps reverting back to the update page. I would like to reboot it, but cant seem to find a way to do this. (on another computer I have there is a special button you can press with a pen...) but no such luck here.  All suggestions are welcome!!! Heather

as kaspersky is good antivirus software may be there are no viruses but who knows...
you can try disable the dns client (it cashes the resloved domain names, and sometime keeps old info, sometimes viruses use it to stop your access to sites like microsoft update or so).
you can give it a try - right click on my computer icon, then select manage from the menu. locate the "services" on the left pane and then look for the "DNS client" and disable it (right click, then stop). then try to update again. you can start it back or disable it - its not important for OS working.

Upgrade to SP4 for Win2k take too long.

Your system specifications are very low for service pack 4.
How ever, a solution would be to reinstall your Operating System (OS), then install Service pack 4 before installing any other programs.

Remember to back up all your data before you reinstall your OS

Windows Vista hangs at 3 of 3

You should be able to go to Add Remove and remove the specific update from the date it was loaded. You can also try a System Restore if you have one available for that date. The update did not install itself properly and keeps trying to do so.

Yes, abort. Download FIWW (Free Internet Windows Washer). Run it for temp file and internet cache. Go to your computer manufacturer's website and check for software updates for your model. Also download Eusing's free registry cleaner and run it as a last resort.
