To format the removable disk:

  1. Click the start menu and go to My Computer
  2. Find the removable disk listed here
  3. Right-click it and choose format
  4. Customize it or leave as default settings and choose format.
  5. When it is complete you will be able to use the disk.

Note: Make sure it's an actual removable storage device and not a multi-card reader or other internal device.

I want to format my flash disk but am told'windows cannot format' , what can i use

On a Windows XP-based computer, you cannot format a Memory Stick removable media device by using the FAT32 file system because there is no option to for FAT32 in the Format Local Disk dialog box. The only available option in the File system list in the Format Local Disk dialog box is FAT

So that you can use NTFS option to your HDD and then format the removable media device

Pen drive removable disk but not showing my data in pen drive also not accepted formating .

When you attach the usb drive, after that right click on my computer icon and click Manage option. After that under Manage console select Disk Management, look for removable drives (that is your usb drive) under it and then format it. It will be formatted.

If that also doesn't work, use some special file formatting utilities like Disk Wipe, File Format etc.

Removeable Disk Not Recognised. I have my USB labelled SONY USB 2.0 I GB. once I plug it on my computer never recognised. So am asking you to get better solutions, Regards, charles

Sometimes when a flash memory stick fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.

When the flash memory device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Healthy.

You need to format the external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchanged between MACs and PCs).
Insert the external hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Health

It seems that the card is bad. Try to format the card on a different machine to rule out your Windows formatter.
