Question about Kenmore Elite HE4 Electric Dryer

Response to HE4 problem

Hello, and thanks for your help! My husband checked the breaker & outlet, no problem there. What should we do next? We are air drying all of our clothes at this point 'cause we don't have the $ to call a repairman or Sears. We are extremely upset that this $1,000 dryer has lasted us only 3 years!!! I was raised believing Sears/Kenmore were the best & most dependable appliances you could buy and now I'm very disappointed :(

I have been reading on line about loose connections on several circuit boards. There are three circuit boards and the interconnecting wiring harness. There is a possibility these connections are not tight enough, and then get oxidized. If you are comfortable taking the top and back off you can get to the circuit cards unplug clean and reconnect these. If you live in a dry climate you can cause an electrostatic build up and damage these cards. After unplugging the machine make sure you do not have any static by grounding yourself to a grounded metal object. I have worked on several similar circuits but not on this model. If you can get these cards unplugged you can clean the terminal strips with a soft eraser. Go to Radio shack and get a non-conductive dielectric grease. put a very very thin film of this on the terminal strips. The circuit diagrams and trouble shooting codes should be inside of the machine taped to the metal sides.

No heat all vents clear. Where would the fuses or breakers be located on this unit.

Sorry to read about your problem. Their is a 80% chance you have a defective heat coil or coils. or the heat selector switch is defective.

Their is no fuse to check, their are thermal protective devices on the unit.

I suggest you place a call to a service company.

Air conditioner fried

It is hard to say how bad it is, if the compressor is gone, then for sure it would be cheaper to replace the whole unit, if it just fried a switch. I take it that he plugged it into the wrong voltage, if it tried to run for a little while, it will have more damage, than if it was a flash and a popping of the breaker.

Dryer not working and trips the breaker

you have a short somewhere,is it gas or elecric?if it's electric try starting it with no heat, you might have a direct short to the heater, also check to make sure you have the correct voltage to the outlet, the problem could be in the house and not the dryer, send model number next time

While air fluffing some shirts the dryer quit and will not start. is there a breaker or fuse internal to the unit?

Check the breaker in your home's breaker box. The dryer will be the only thing that is on it. It will be a double breaker and looking might not tell you if it has tripped. If it isn't marked just grab the swich and see if it's "wiggly" on each double breaker. If you find a wiggler, flip it all the way over to "off" then back to "on". If the breakers are all fine, the next place to check is the wall outlet itself. If you have a volt meter, first check the slots in the outlet. If you get nothing, pull the wall plate off of the outlet and check the wires leading to the outlet. If they have power, replace the outlet. To the best of my somewhat experienced knowledge, there is no fuse in dryer and I know there is no breaker in it.
